Stars are for the customer service as they catered to our last minute Mother’s Day booking of 10pax. The whole place is pretty neat, lots of seating available indoors and outdoor, the toilets are clean. Bar is a pretty good set up, they also have the screens available with the league/sports on.
It would be 5 stars if waiting times for food weren’t so ridiculous. I get it’s busy especially for Mothers Day. Maybe they were short staffed but waiting times for food were well over an hour and the bigger family after us has to sit there and watch us eat they waited almost and hour and a half.
Yes we totally understand it is super busy, but the least they could do is when taking orders for larger groups of families maybe it’s wise to give them a heads up and let them know of the waiting times or even approach us while we are sitting there waiting the whole hour and communicate that meals are on their way or almost there just let us know there is a bit of a wait so we are aware as other families had children crying they were hungry so they sat there next to us watching us eat. The meal portions were very small for the price we paid extremely disappointing as we’ve had pasta more reasonably priced elsewhere and had double the portion we received that night. The gravy or whatever sauce it was on the steaks was not nice at all. It was terrible. Caesar salad with grilled chicken came with more cos lettuce than anything, poached egg was over cooked and the grilled chicken was probably two pieces of chicken tenders that were broken up into tiny bite pieces x Overall the...
Read moreI had an incredible evening at Blacksalt Bar and Eatery in New Lynn—it’s become my new go-to spot for relaxed yet upscale vibes! The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, with that perfect mix of cozy comfort and lively energy, especially on a Friday night when the place buzzes without feeling overwhelming. We started with the Baked Camembert ($25), paired with red onion marmalade and garlic focaccia—melty, indulgent perfection that had us scraping the plate clean. For mains, the Pan Seared Sea Bass ($38) stole the show: flaky, fresh fish in a fragrant saffron and mussel broth, with tender potatoes and briny olives that elevated every bite. My partner raved about the Roasted Lamb Rump ($25), glazed with pomegranate and grilled to juicy perfection alongside those grilled cutlets. Portions were generous, flavors seasonal and spot-on, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared without being pretentious. The staff were absolute gems—attentive, knowledgeable about the cocktail menu (we loved their classic twists), and super accommodating when we tweaked a dish for dietary needs. They even chatted about upcoming quiz nights and events, making it feel like a neighborhood gem. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and wrapping up with a creamy Cheesecake ($38—worth every cent for the chocolate filigree surprise) was the cherry on top. If you’re craving tasty, feel-good eats and drinks in a friendly space, head to Blacksalt. Open late enough for after-work unwinds or weekend brunches—5 stars, no question! Can’t...
Read moreAs someone who lives in this area and used to frequent this bar, I can confirm I am never coming back here. We arrived at 15/05/25 at approx 8:45pm for some dinner and drinks. We checked the menu beforehand to figure out what we wanted to order/figure out how much we wanted to spend. We got there and we got seated, and who I am assuming is the manager came up to take our order. I let her know that the lamb shank was $29 online on their dinner menu, but $32 on their physical menu. She said “someone is sick and cannot update the menu”, so I said “oh that’s okay, but you will honour it right?” And she abruptly said no. We agreed that we did want the lamb shank and that $4 does not really matter. Outside the bar they have a HUGE sign up saying that ALL cocktails are $12. We ordered a margarita and thank god we asked what it costs. The waiter said “it’s $18” and we queried saying that it says $12 outside? He confidently said that the massive sign that says “thirsty Thursday all cocktails $12” is from 2018. I am so glad we left the restaurant because these guys do not know how to run an already empty...
