PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES BEWARE:
FWIW I found the food to be delicious, presentation was lovely, and pricing was more fair (by international standards) for food of the same caliber. The experience provided was one I’d like to have again. That said the experience fell short - as someone with a severe allergy to nuts, especially groundnuts / peanuts, I was thrilled to see that in the reservation we could make note of allergies and intolerances. I shared at the point of reservation and verbally reminded the waiter as we arrived/were ordering and then was promptly served two complimentary items with nuts in them: plantain chips cooked in groundnut oil and a kola nut drink.
This spoiled my ability to truly enjoy the remainder of the food for fear of its toxicity. Within an hour of leaving I was vomiting at the nearest hospital.
The good thing is that when I realizing the error they did have Benadryl on hand to quell the allergic reaction. The bad thing is that when I began to ask more seriously about the allergen and proximity to the closest hospital the manager himself moved with absolutely no urgency or concern for customer wellbeing. Allergies are serious, hospital visits are expensive, and life is precious.
I really did enjoy the food, and would have liked to come back even the next day as the food and the portions even for the small plates were good! But it’s a bit hard to reconcile fact that ONA sent me to the hospital.
Please note the Nigerian wait staff was attentive and service was exceptional, but they were clearly not trained to take allergies seriously because the manager did not take it...
Read moreA very pleasant experience! We were invited to Ona as part of a group of about 12 business colleagues and partners. As a vegetarian I was a little sceptical after reading the menu online but a call to Ona assured me that veg options were available. The starter was a Bao bun filled with a tasty mixture of cauliflower, sauce and spices. I left the bun but devoured the filling! The main was a mushroom mixture in gravy on cauliflower mash. Both dishes very flavourful with a combination of spices and ingredients that I had not experienced before - would order both again. The chocolate dessert (bonbon?) was exquisite - rich dark chocolate with a sherry filling. The presentation of each dish was lovely. The service was excellent - attentive without being intrusive. Often a difficult combination to find in Lagos. Perhaps one thing to improve on is the timing when serving the different courses - we had three choices of starter, main and dessert and it would have been better to have everyone's course arrive at the same time. I can imagine that is a challenge for any kitchen. All in all, a great experience and we'll be back! Thanks very much for a...
Read moreI went there to hang out with 4 of my friends,I heard alot about how lovely the restaurant was and thought we should give it a try.
I was offered a complimentary shot which was nice and had a Chapman. It wasn't very busy when I go there but by the time my friends arrived it was very busy and it awhile before we could order food and drinks.
By the.time the food came we were very hungry and was disappointed with the small portion of food especially for the price. The platters were expensive and I was looking forward to getting value for our money.
I dont know if the service was very slow because it was during a festive period or not as this was my first time there.
I was disappointed as I thought the food was overpriced and underwhelming.
The half portion of bird was N85,000 while the other grill platters, the seafood was almost abit less for the...
