So I've been eating at woks & koi for a few years now and so far I've had nothing but love for their meals. It's my go-to restaurant and I'm always ready to recommend to people. Fast-forward to Tuesday 26th July, I convinced a friend to go eat there, Durban street wuse 2 spot. We got express takeout bill of 22,115.00 naira, he graciously paid with his card, the attendant claimed the 1st one was declined, mind you no print out. He gave a second card and the transaction went through. We got our order on time"kudos" and left. He hot home and realized he'd been debited twice so he went back to let them know, they said they'll check their account and get back to him in 24hours, also took his contact information and bank details for a refund if they confirm that both transactions successfully dropped in their account. The worst part of this long story, "bear with me" is that they have now confirmed that they received both payments but rather than effect the refund as promised, they asked him to go to his bank and request they write to the bank of where woks &koi account is domiciled for a reversal. I'm horrified seeing as I recommended this restaurant which by the way I'm never going to do again. How do you turn an issue of refund into that of reversal, the money is in your account. This atrocious behavior, insensitive and wicked act is unacceptable. Maybe a court order to place lien on that account will set them straight. It's indeed a shame. In the future I know never to eat here again or...
Read moreBefore I talk about the food, I want to emphasize that the ambience, and the customer service was top notch. The waiter was very polite and helpful. In addition, the place was very neat, beautiful and 100% picturesque.
I can’t exactly remember the names of the food (but it should be in the receipt, which I posted - swipe). Everything was properly cooked and tasted as it should. I overenjoyed that “pasta” (not the correct name on the menu). It looked basic but it was had a lot of flavor (I needed more of that dish 🤤). That sauce was loaded sheesh🔥🔥. It wasn’t spicy at all but it was packed with flavors and they scattered it prawns (big sized ones). The big plus for me was that the garlic did not overpower the sauce.
The only (slight) issue I had was with the “fruit juice” we got. It was overpriced abeg - 1200 for a glass of chivita 😑. The rice was a bit dry but I think that was done on purpose besides it banged (for me) so no complaints at all.
Overall, I had a great experience and I think you should check them out for your Chinese experience.
PS: I tried chopsticks and I...
Read moreWoks & Koi is a cute and intimate spot for solid Chinese eats. The prawn spring roll was quite literally the best I’ve had in a while—the roll-to-filling ratio was perfection. Service was polite and attentive, and they get a personal 10/10 from me for offering a hot towel at the start (pro tip to elevate: a drop of essential oil on the towel would take it to the next level!).
The cranberry virgin daiquiri was refreshing and delicious, the calamari hit that sweet spot between soft and firm, and the pepper sauce packed both heat and flavor. The space is beautifully decorated, but refreshingly doesn't fall into the all-too-common Abuja trap of overdoing aesthetics while neglecting the food. It strikes a perfect balance—clean, calm, and focused on delivering a great dining experience. One of those oldie-but-goodie true gems of the city. Bonus points for being baby-friendly—I was serenaded by a very satisfied...
