Nonna Lina ristorante pizzeria — Restaurant in Ålesund

I wish I had the opportunity to review the food here, however, after a 30-minute wait, I left. After reading so many great reviews, my family and I stopped in for dinner while on vacation. When we entered, a family of four was waiting (and were seated within 10 minutes). I asked how long of a wait for my family (4) and was told to wait just a few minutes and she would find out (she never came back to tell me) Another family of four entered about 10 minutes after us (who appeared to be local), walked past us and told the staff they did not have a reservation. Within five minutes, they were seated ahead of us. When I asked again how long of a wait, I was told to go sit and wait it would be a little while still. Had heard very good things about Nonna Lina so booked a table for four on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered bruschetta and mussels for starters. The bruschetta was delicious and had a generous drizzle of olive oil. The mussels were also very good. Server forgot our drink order, but did apologize.

For the main, we had pizza. Two of the pizzas were great. Delicious sauce and good amount of cheese. The crust was wonderful too.

However, the third pizza was a bit of a disappointment. It was way too charred which left the entire crust tasting burnt and really ruined the overall impression of that pizza. I like to think it was only bad luck, because the other two had a perfect amount of charring which was not overpowering. It was also served with a single tiny basil leaf on it. Would have expected more.

We made dinner reservations for Nonna Lina and were treated with excellent service from beginning to end. While the wait for the food was pretty long, we enjoyed the delicious bread and wine in the meantime. The menu was very limited - just 3 dishes for pasta. But the truffle pappardelle was wonderful. A few others in our reservation ordered the arrabiata pasta, which turned out to be way too spicy for them. The servers should probably provide a warning about it! It’s certainly the spiciest arrabiata pasta i’ve ever tried. For dessert, we enjoyed the chocolate cake, which was rich and dense.
