There was clearly differential and racist treatment for customers. The food was good and served well when we visited the place on the 15th Aug 2019 evening by 2 male employees. We ordered non veg gravy and 3 Garlic naan and we were given good quantity rice with big bowls.
However on 16th evening when we went back for the dinner at 8:15 pm. A different person was here to take our order and serve us food and she gave smaller cups of rice for us with an order of the gravy and rotis. We remained to observe and ordered another dish to check while we waited to see how other customers were served.
We clearly saw we had smaller bowls of semi boiled hard rice while others had bigger bowls. We asked what was the reason behind giving us a smaller bowl of rice for the same order that we gave previous day and the lady responded with a Racist comment saying indians generally waste rice and so we give smaller bowls of rice to Indians.
It was a very random comment from someone who runs a restaurant with an Indian name. They open a restaurant with Indian name and fame and make differential treatments to Indian Customers who travel to Norway for a leisure vacation. This was the last day of our trip and we decided to go to Indian restaurant as we had cravings for our food. It was a real bad experience.
On the otherside we were welcomed and hosted greatly by Norwegian restaurants much better. We dined at Aegir microbrewery at Flåm, Hotell Geiranger at Geirangerfjord and many such Norwegian restaurants and we had a...
Read moreI am beyond shocked and disgusted by what happened during my recent visit to this Tajmahal restaurant on 19th July 25 in Ålesund . I have never encountered such appalling behaviour from restaurant staff in my life. We politely requested to have separate bills for our individual orders — a perfectly reasonable and common request. To our shock, the waiter responded with hostility, made personal and insulting comments, and even verbally abused us in front of other customers. This was not just unprofessional — it was outright disrespectful and abusive. Let me be clear: this was not a misunderstanding or a busy-night frustration. It was deliberate, targeted, and aggressively handled. We were made to feel unwelcome, embarrassed, and furious — all because we asked for something any decent establishment should accommodate without question. If this is the kind of staff you employ, you are not running a restaurant — you’re running a disaster. Management owes us a serious apology. This incident speaks volumes about the lack of basic training and respect in this place. I strongly urge others to avoid this restaurant until they take accountability and fix their toxic service culture. No one deserves to be treated the...
Read moreI do not recommend this place. You can review my history of reviewing restaurants and never ever I’ve given a bad rating. Terrible experience.
Ordered paneer curry (forgot the exact name of that item), and mentioned to the waiter that “I’d like it to be a little bit spicy but not too much”. However the item was really spicy and you can’t even really eat it. But that’s not even the problem honestly, mistakes happen. I asked if I could order another item and the waiter straight away said “you see there are so many other people.” I mentioned I can wait, and I got that there are many people and the place was almost full at that time. Then he said “you need not pay, but can leave if you don’t like the food”. That’s when I decided this place straight out sucks. Not sure how this has 4 stars. Wish I could give zero stars if I could.
Customers are there to enjoy the experience and not just the food. Even if the food is mediocre, people still sometimes enjoy the experience. Just a terrible way to...
