At Cartel in Bergen, the service significantly impacted the overall dining experience. From the outset, we were given menus in a language we didn't understand, despite being greeted in English. More disconcertingly, throughout our visit, the staff openly expressed their dissatisfaction with their workplace. Hearing conversations filled with complaints about the management and their job dissatisfaction for the entire duration of our meal created a disheartening atmosphere, far removed from the welcoming ambiance one expects at a restaurant.
The food and drink offerings, while promising on the menu, also fell short of expectations. The portions were notably small, leaving us feeling unsatisfied after spending over 500 NOK per person. Our experience with the beverages further exemplified the restaurant's steep pricing; a 0.25L apple juice was priced at nearly 7 euros, which felt excessive. The dishes, from the mostly-ice virgin cocktail to the underwhelming gambas and the small, sour-tasting fajitas, did not provide the value or the culinary delight we anticipated.
In light of these experiences, particularly the uncomfortable atmosphere created by the staff's open dissatisfaction and the poor value for money in both food and drink, I find it difficult to...
Read moreCame here on a Tuesday night. We had booked in advance online. We were promptly met by a waiter when we arrived. He told us about the Tuesday night special which was fajitas with soft drink our frozen margarita for only 249kr (fajitas are normally 299kr). It was exactly what I wanted so had that. My partner ordered the beef fajitas and I ordered the chicken. Everything arrived together on the same plate. I wasn't expecting that and somehow I was a bit disappointed but I could see how we would struggle to have all the dishes given the table size. I tried the beef and found it to be disappointing but the chicken was really good so I was happy. My partner had food-envy. Overall the portion size was fine but we were both still a bit peckish so tried one of the states to share. The coxinha were very good, superbly cooked. They recommend having them with sauce and we used this aardvark sauce which was excellent. To finish we shared the cheesecake balls, which were extremely morish.
The bathrooms here are unisex and the sink is in a communal bit. I really like that layout, and while it doesn't make a difference for me, I know some really appreciate unisex bathrooms.
I had a good night and I'll definetly come here again. Would...
Read moreSo we went to Salsa twice on our long weekend to Bergen. The first time we tried their burgers and the second time their combo share platter. The waiters are really nice and jovial, and the athmosphere is relaxed and easy.
I really liked their burger, I found it juicy and with flavour, while my girlfriend said hers Brasileiro was ok. But she has a very high standard for burgers after living in Slovenia, so she hasn’t found any burger yet in Norway that compares.
The combo share platter was served really nicely, but I would have loved more meat. Even if we ordered for two. There was many fried balls, but the meat was the best. It was fine, but I was still a bit hungry after (though I just couldn’t eat their W.T.F. balls, falaffel balls, as I found their smell and taste horrible. My girlfriend said it was just fine and ate hers, so that was just a difference in taste).
One thing I found weird was that they did not tracking for Covid-19. They didn’t ask for our name and numbers, so I hope no customers come to them with korona. There were also no antibac on the tables, and I didn’t see any in the restaurant (but my girlfriend told me there was one on the...
