Bettola — Restaurant in Oslo

Fancy cocktail bar with great selection of cocktails, particularly Negroni. I had a coffee infused Negroni, my friend had a mezcal Negroni and the other froemd had a plcocktail whicj was served in a cup which looked like a clenched fist, with grapefruit juice, ginger and fresh flowers (I'm really sorry I can't recall the name of that cocktail!). Beautiful presentation for all cocktails and they were also very well prepared. Both bartenders were also serving on the floor, they kind and discreet. The background music was in tone with the relaxed atmosphere of the space, which is assembled like 1970s Italian living room, with lamps, sofas, coffee tables and art on the walls all conveying a sense of subtle melancholy. The overall atmosphere is cosy yet sophisticated. I really enjoyed the fact that the bar was not busy (although my friend told me it was busier than usual - still there was enough space for everyone who was there to sit somewhere comfortable), background music was not too loud and conversation (and drinks) flew smoothly. Prices are average for Oslo and I find they absolutely fit the good quality of the product and service; just to make a comparison for international travellers, they are slightly more expensive...

The great thing about this place is the afternoon sun, and they also play music outside which is nice. They joker is that they have very variable quality of staff that can make or break the visit. Yesterday there was a cheerful guy that didn’t hesitate to set up a table in the sun. Today there was a girl that didn’t bother to suggest it (even when implicitly asked), and who also didn’t know they had food on the menu (though the selection is only focaccia and cheese / ham platter. The latter is really nice actually and I was surprised it wasn’t mentioned). Maybe she was new or was stressed about something. All in all it’s a nice place to get some sun and have a beer. Bettola is one of the few places in oslo where they give you the heartwarming service, as well as the quality of the cocktails. Going in there and sitting by the bar and watching the bartender do his/her magic is enough to take you back to the time you went into Black angels in Prague. And if you are going in there with more people the cocktail waiter is gonna give you the time of your life as well.
