Sorry for the long review, just stick with me.

I'm not trying to be mean, I just have many years in customer service and hospitality and this place is not cutting it.

Pros: proximity to everything, tram, food, drinks, bike rentals, and entertainment.

Some of the front desk staff were helpful and nice. Some were not.

The gorgeous and nice bartender

Breakfast until 11 on the weekends

Most of the room and bathroom was clean.

Cons: I had to kill 5-6 spiders that lived in the LARGE amount of spiderwebs in the lights above our bed (pictures included)

THERE IS NO A/C IN THE ROOMS, OR FANS. If you're here in or near the summer be prepared to wake up in the middle of the night dripping sweat. The windows only open a little obviously for suicide prevention, but I couldn't open it because there were also SPIDERS OUTSIDE OUR WINDOW.

When we did the self check-in, we had to ask the front desk girl for our room number again because the screen didn't show it for very long, she was nice and told us our room but didn't tell us anything involving the hotel i.e. breakfast times, bar times, THEY DON'T HAVE LUNCH OR DINNER, where the elevators were, check out time, just all the basic stuff you would expect them to tell you. She went back to talking to her friend or whoever it was on the customer side of the counter, he didn't seem to be a customer. When we checked out the gentleman at the desk was very nice and much more helpful.

DON'T YOU DARE TRY TO EAT OR BE IN THE BREAKFAST AREA AFTER THEY ARE "CLOSED" or they will act like the building is going to fall down on top of them. They don't use the area for meetings, lunch, or dinner, so I don't get why they want you out of there the second breakfast is over. They will pretty much try to clear the plates from you mid-bite. Also, if the bar area is full or loud, don't sit in the breakfast area for some privacy or the world will stop spinning according to how I was talked to.

You have to pay for what should be free amenities: coffee in the lobby, shuffle board in the bar after buying drinks (150Kr for 30 mins) also the shuffleboard, while fun, is worn out and no longer level.

I had trouble getting WIFI on the higher floors. I had to go to the ground floor to get smooth internet.

There is no conditioner, just some mystery body soap in the dispenser.

As we were leaving we saw one of the room cleaners sitting in the hallway taking selfies between 2 rooms she had been working on for at least 1.5 hours. SO THAT'S WHY I have spiders and webs all in my room, because someone can't do their job efficiently.

Not the worst hotel ever, but if you're reading all of this, you can find better. At least try to find a place with A/C in the rooms, aren't rude about their arbitrary rules they didn't tell you about that make no sense. Oh, also a better cleaning structure that includes getting the spiders and webs...

We stayed here from February 14-22 2016 and we were quite happy with the hotel.

It's nothing special, very basic, but affordable and we got a great package. The rooms are a little small, and the beds were single - but they are some of the most comfortable beds that I've ever slept on in a hotel. The pillows not so much, but it didn't make or break my sleep, lol.

Checking in was smooth and fast, and the employees at the front desk were great throughout our entire stay. I was able to buy postcards to send home and they put together all the postage and such for me and shipped them off. Awesome!

The morning buffet breakfast is alright, but we were pretty tired of it by the third day as they don't seem to ever switch it up even a little bit. I had a chance to try some new and different foods that I hadn't before - so that was cool. There are signs asking you not to bring food out of the cafeteria for obvious reasons, but you can make a sandwich to take out for 80NOK.

The showers are a bit strange and we ended up with water all over the bathroom floor, but I'm just going to assume that I wasn't using it properly. I won't hold that against the hotel. :P

I found the free wi-fi to be just fine. I didn't try to stream movies or anything, but for basic internet use I found it fast and reliable.

The location was perfect, as we were there to see a show at the Folkentheateret, which is just down the street - as is everything else! It's only a few minutes walk from Central Station which made our getting from and to the airport very easy. There's a Kiwi, which is a grocery chain just a couple of minutes away, as is a McDonalds if you're looking for your fast-food fix. There are 7-11's EVERYWHERE.

There is complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby all the time, and the bar is pretty cute as well. There are no ice machines, but you can go down to the bar to get some if you need it. When the bar is closed, just go to the front desk and they'll get it for you.

All in all we enjoyed our stay. Nothing special about the Anker Hotel, but if you're looking for good value and a reasonable price, it's...

Almost perfect hotel for a one week stay in Oslo. The room do have a good size and good equipment. The bed is really soft an comfortable. Just a bit too narrow for two people but still acceptable. The big window is really nice and gives a nice view over the surrounding. Especially from the 13th floor. The bathroom is sufficiently large as well as the level shower. It could be a bit better maintained, still as the door squeaks and the shower head drips. Overall the room is good and the cleaning service is really good and the overall cleanliness is more than satisfying.

The breakfast is really nice and the selection of food is actually quiet huge and everyone will definitely find something to eat. The quality is also really good. The breakfast room is really big so that everyone will find a place to sit.

The lobby as well as the breakfast room are freshly renovated (at least seems so) and look very modern with fancy furniture. There's also a coffee machine in the lobby. The staff was very polite and nice to every guest.

The location of the hotel is very good as you have the tram just outside of the door (50 meter walk) with which you can get to the central station and to every point of the city.

Sadly the bar was closed due to COVID-19. But the whole area is nice to sit.

The price of the room is really good and especially for what you get is quite cheap compares to other hotels.

All in all I can only recommend the hotel for a...

Great location, easy walk to Oslo S, tram top right outside, and nearby neighborhoods, shopping, and dining options are very accessible. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good with Nordic options and even allergy considerate options. Coffee, not that great. Rooms... They're small, like most Scandanavian hotels, smaller rooms with small bathrooms. I had a "Superior Twin Room" two twin beds, I was able to push them together and they provided zip ties to make it into a larger bed like many hotels do in Europe. The space as small, I'm not sure how a non-Superior room would work? Small table to work from but the biggest issue was it was quite dark. Only bedside lights and a lamp by the table then a few track-lights. Even in long daylight summer the room felt dark. Then while housekeeping was cleaning my room they damaged my bathroom door so that it would no longer close! I didn't bother mentioning as I assumed they'd notice the next day. Nope. Bathrooms are tiny which is ok, however the design of the shower doors is not well done, hard to open and close without getting water everywhere. I'd use a towel every shower to keep water from seeping out into the floor which usually were quite soaked as water spread under the shower door. Replacement towels were lacking so I had to go to the housekeeping closet to get more as they were not regularly replaced.
