2025 Update: Walk-in on a sunny Saturday, but we got a table without waiting. Good service and good food. Still 5 stars. After two years we are back, and so is the restaurant. The food was very good and so was the service. The dishes from the Japanese kitchen was an excellent starter; kveite, sashimi mix & crab taco. Tin tin Thai hotpot and Ruam Thai pot nice main dishes. And Chocolate fondant and the signature dessert "TILSLØRTE ASIATISKE BONDEPIKE". Back to five stars. Eight month ago I wrote a five star rating for this venue. Not being able to with another, I will have to edit that one.
Having been here before and had the big set menu I was my wife was going to like the place. But unfortunately none of us did. The reception was friendly but from there it was downhill. The big set menu was on longer on the menu. They were playing some music that did not go well with a nice dinner, too loud. Having been there before we ordered two cocktails before we even started looking at the menu. They took rather long to arrive so we got to order before they arrived. That is only partially right because when I was about to order the wine the waiter ran off. Therefore, when the starter arrived we had plenty of cocktail left and had that with the starters. Even if we got to order the wine and got it delivered, we had to wait to taste it. At least we had it for the mail course, which were the two signature dishes; Black pepper beef and Crazy duck.
The Black pepper beef is served with yuzu pepper sauce and asparagus. Surprisingly the sauce had a distinct taste of orange and a total lack of pepper. In addition, most of the asparagus where green beans. They were unfortunately not crisp but rather hard so we left them behind. The tenderloin where not that tender, but OK. The Crazy duck were crispy as promises, and the meat was rather dry. The Hoisin sauce with a twist tasted very much like ordinary Hoisin. Sitting close to the kitchen we noticed that lobster seemed to be quite popular, so maybe that is what we should have opted for. Add to this that we had to refill our glasses with wine ourselves and had some staff quarrelling and banging crates right behind my back. I am sorry to say that I will not be spending any more money in this place. Having given this place 5 starts on my last visit, I am now...
Read moreWorst service we've experienced in Oslo, avoid if you have young children with you!
Booked a table for 4 adults and 1 child (afternoon booking), had it approved on the phone by head office that we could bring a small stroller for the 1-year-old as they don't have high chairs. Makes you wonder why they even ask how many children when you make the booking when they are so unfriendly to families with young children...
However, when we arrived at the restaurant the rude lady refused us entrance to the restaurant with the small stroller, so exactly what we wanted to avoid by having it approved before commuting all the way there. There was no understanding or help to be given by the lady at the entrance and she sent us away.
When I contacted the head office to understand how this happened and maybe naively expect an apology for the embarrassing situation where I was spoken to like an idiot in front of the guests I had with me, how wrong was I... NO ANSWER on Facebook messenger so I emailed, got an answer to say they'll look into it and get back to me. That was September 30th and despite one more follow up in an attempt to get an explanation I am yet to hear back from the head office, the same office I spoke with on the phone to have the stroller approved to begin with.
The restaurant has had plenty of opportunities to explain themselves before I wrote this review and I would have left it there if they'd taken the...
Read moreI arrived at the entrance and delivered my jacket. The Asian waitress was not smiling and polite. I visited the toilet and I found it small and with the napkins just piled up beside the sink. We sat beside the kitchen and the sounds were quite loud. Besides the music was also loud and unpleasant. Some of us were Muslims or vegans and needed a special menu, and they were therefore required to sit all together. I felt that this was a form of discrimination, just for the sake of making things easier for the waiters. We had to wait quite a long while for the food. Most of my colleagues had a Yang Menu. They had to share the plates and had very little food each. We had the Mang Sa, the vegan menu. The Kabocha Maki was served with asparagus, tofu and pumpkin puree. The maki had little taste and the same can be said of the pumpkin. The tofu dry red curry was ok, but the soya sauce had too strong a taste. Finally the glass with black cherry and coffee cream was ok. We were all still quite hungry at the end of the meal. Besides, our waiter, a man with a beard was not polite at all. I wouldn't like to come to this...
