Café Sara — Restaurant in Oslo

This place is just not worth it. I've been here a few times, and every time it takes a few years to forget how much to dislike it, but here goes.

The acoustics are terrible. If you want to talk to your friends don't come here.

A wall fell on my friend once. To be fair it was a draft that knocked it over, but you'd expect a serious bar to have some sort of safety routines, and not loose walls standing around. Especially considering they chose our table.

We reserved three tables once for the entire night. My friend were here on time, but the rest of you ran a bit late. They made him give up two of the tables because there was a line. Fair enough. When the rest of us had arrived and the tables weren't occupied anymore they had already reserved it for someone else with the excuse that we didn't arrive.

The food is way too expensive. If it was fancy food I'd get it, but it's not. It's a run of the mill burger and it'll cost you close to 30$/20£/200nok.

Good food, bad service. Seating was unclear. You order through QR code which was nice. They didn’t have what I ordered and paid for. He brought out a different drink and I asked if it was gluten free, he said yes. I looked it up online and it has gluten in it. The other waitress came over and I told her I couldn’t have that (I didn’t drink anything) and he said it was gluten free even though it’s not. She said it was not gluten free. However, she brought me out a gluten free beer (I did not ask for this) and made me pay for it. I didn’t want beer because I do not like beer. I would’ve ordered something else if I knew I had to pay again. It was a frustrating situation handled poorly because the other waiter came back and claimed we didn’t talk about gluten free (even though we did and my friend heard me ask and him confirm). Made a reservation for 8pm 31/12 after reading good reviews which was confirmed as the reservation was made that morning in the cafe however when we arrived at 8pm that night the cafe was shut. Our name and contact number was given at the time of booking but no effort was made to contact us to inform us of this. We called the cafe number after turning up but as expected no answer. Soon after I also messaged the cafe on Instagram which an automatic message was received to call the cafe. A response to the Instagram message was the received an hour later saying that due to short staff they decided to close early. Notification of this earlier closure would have been appreciated especially as many cafes and restaurants were closed on New Year, which is why the reservation was made.
