Live just a block away so it's easy to stop by once in a while. The noodles and the different Ramen dishes taste OK, but the taste of broths varies a bit from time to time - too bland and yet too salty. Need to be more consistent, more flavours, more caramelization on the pork and the eggs should be cut in half making it easier to eat. More greens would not have faulted the dishes either. The fried chicken is OK and so are the gyozas, but again the saltiness might be an issue for some. The Japanese cuisine is very much about umami, but umami does not necessarily equals saltiness to this degree I think. Experienced some salty dishes at famous Ivan Ramen in NYC too, maybe it's a way of urging people to order more drinks? Read that Ivan Ramen approved Koie's noodles, both places have quality home made noodles with good texture. Ivan Ramen has whole wheat options like Rye noodles. Hopefully Koie will provide whole wheat options too in the future. Service at Koie is ok, but could be a lot better. Interior is simple and clean, but it feels cold and the acoustic is really really horrible! And the lighting is way too bright making my eyes hurt. They should do something to cosy-up this place and make it less sterile. Surely, I'm not the only one who's a bit relieved stepping back outside after a meal here. Only in-house serving, so no takeaway. No reservations possible, first come first served. Opening hours are from late afternoon so you cannot get lunch here. I'm sure they're missing out on many customers and sales, so perhaps they will expand opening hours in...

Hate to leave a bad review but I have to, first things first, the food is great, the ramen are amazing! Hence the 4 stars. But now to the bad part, there is no way to contact the restaurant at all, there is no phone number and no one seems to read their contact email. A couple of days ago I forgot my bottle, realized that night but the restaurant was closed already. The next day my train to Bergen would leave to early to go back to the restaurant. I’ve searched for a phone number but all I could find was some sort of email, filled it in with a discription of my bottle hoping for the best. I still haven’t had a response but with a stroke of luck, changing trains took place in Oslo and I had 45 minutes before my train left. When I made it back to the restaurant I heard the tragic news that my bottle was thrown away yesterday, the waitress even recognized me from my previous visit and felt really bad for me (thank you nice waitress). I know it’s only a bottle (“Go GeT a NeW oNe” I can imagine some people would say), turns out the only proof of existence of my bottle was me and my class getting one, I tried to search everywhere. Not on my school’s merch site, not somewhere else on the normal school site, not even second hand. If only they had a phone number I could call I might still have it. Allas now I’m without a bottle off to Stockholm. Once again thanks for the food, it was really good but please improve ways...

A while ago I wrote about an unfortunate visit At this restaurant and this is what happened after:

So after my last visit, the management of the restaurant reached out to me and said they would love to have me back for a second opinion. I have to say I really appreciate the level of costumer value this reflects.

And today I must have caught them at a really good day. The place was busy and the atmosphere was superb with loads of happy customers. I overheard several compliments to the chef’s and waitress/waiters.

I even had the chance to have a few pleasant words with the manager, Monica, who seemed like a genuine and cool person.

This is not a place for a quiet and relaxing meals, but rather a urban place for the social occasions.

Also the food was exactly as good as the first time, even though the last bit tend to remain. Little does that matter as the portions here are super big. If you need more than a bowl of ramen to get satisfied I’d say you’d be either starved or just exaggerating.

The beer on tap is Kirin which was actually really good. I also noticed they had some kind of cider on tap, as well ass other beers on can.

All in all the people and the food here needs and deserve a good amount of credit - not only for their food, but for the way they made me feel like they care for their customers and their reputation.

I’m happy I gave it another go!

Good people who makes good food. What’s...

Was there with my friend yesterday. Ostegata is rn the best ramen in Oslo and closest to the umami taste of Japanese. The tonkotsu was really good. Taste has evolved a lot better and no more corona bland broth lol haha! Creamy qualified clean broth (i mixed up the black drops so it looks mushy in the foto). I ended the dish without remember to add chili oil. So it was a compliment for you. Chasiu was better with no stinky pork and light, even tho it wasnt chared and doesnt taste anything seasoned. Food size was perfectly served out. Karaage was super cripsy, soft, warm homemade majo was creamy and a litte touch of sour lemon, delicious. Plus point for being unique with the karaage since japanese shops are never meant to be similar. I havent order gyoza or kimchi this time, so if you do experience, do tell. When you see a long snake line outside waiting to eat you know its good. Shop is casually clean, and bathroom is nice. They just need to check if bathroomwas dirt more often. Good for a small group and cozy people who love to enjoy a close enough japanese culture, and good for Asians who miss the taste of those local slurps down the streets in the city.🍻 Edited: i read your comments down there. I got a nice japanese staff yesterday. and it was a good experience. maybe i was lucky to be there at the least busy hour, and maybe the rude staff and bad chefs were fired lol

This is the best ramen place in Oslo,... and maybe in Norway,... and maybe in Scandinavia. And yes, I've tried many ramen places in Scandinavia. And no, I am not exaggerating. There is little less to add, but I'll add more. The place feels traditional though well situated in the Nordic decoration style. The attention is quick and impersonal, but it never felt rude. They have the usual/traditional bar or you can pick a shared table. Speaking of ramen, the broth of the tonkotsu is beyond great. It is thick, rich and infused with some sort of smokey flavor hard to describe. It is truly remarcable. The ajitama is one of the best seasoned I've tried. I was tempted to order an extra one. The toppings seemed minimalist at the beginning, but proven to be more than enough. Everything was way beyond my expectations. ... and we'll, you asked about prices? Remember that you are reading about a place in Norway, so you should have an idea. Though it is not above the (high) average of a dinner in Oslo, and it is cheaper than other (less good) ramen joints in the city. The only sad thing is that I discovered this place on the last day of my stay in Oslo. But maybe it was good since I came and tried a different ramen place each day. So if I had chosen this as first I would not have tried the rest. Don't think about it any further: go. You can thank me later.

I purposely chose the bowl without canned sweetcorn due to my pedantic avoidance of such vagaries. The location was agreeable to dine & depart, although the acoustics were treacherous. The Nagoya bowl arrived at my table from the friendly server, and my accomplices Tonkotsu bowls. I noticed the pool of oil floating on mine, and was slightly hesitant about the repercussions of such excess. Sometimes that means bursts of flavour, other times it just means grease. Half way down the bowl, the verdict was in. A totally acceptable bowl of noodle soup, but nothing more than that. The noodles had a slight chew to them, the egg was standard, the addition of crisp bean sprouts is always a plus, and there was an underlying trace of chilli, but it didn't do enough to counter-act the sweetness of the broth. I know some ramen styles are supposed to be oily, but this pushed the envelope onto the fringes. I had a sip of my friends Tonkotsu and if it had been toned down for the local palate i'd understand, because it lacked the deep richness and body that real Tonkotsu possesses. However, for what it was, it was.
