Hitchhiker — Restaurant in Oslo

Not very pleased with how I was treated during my visit here a while back. Ive heard many great things about this restaurant and my readers wanted a review from this place a while back so decided to come and dine here with some friends. I looked up on Google if they were open and Google said they were. Since this place is on the 2nd floor of mathallen and mathallen was open and full of people we figured it was open. When we arrived, we saw 2 people in the kitchen and we assumed that they were prepping because they just opened. The place looked cozy, vibrant and alive so we were looking forward to it.

There were no waitresses around so we found a table of our own near the bar there and a young blonde lady came out of nowhere and said we needed to leave. She told us that it was a private restaurant and was extremely disrespectful towards us. I asked if she was a waitress for the restaurant but she didn't answer my question and kept telling us to leave and that it was a private restaurant. I didn't understand what she meant so I asked if we were not allowed to dine in the restaurant. She kept repeating herself even though all of us sat there like questionmarks. I asked again if they were closed and where we could go to dine at hitchhiker. I apologized for going to the wrong place because she made is seem like we went to the wrong place. Then she told us that we were at hitchhiker and that it was private and that we needed to leave. Every time she replied it got more and more confusing to us, asking questions seemed to make her more aggressive. So we gave up on trying to understand her and left. We went to the diner next door and had amazing chicken and waffles that saved the day after that horrific experience.

Never in all my years as a food critic have I ever encountered such disrespectful staff. Not once in my life have I ever had such a confusing conversation. She did not even try to explain to us what we did wrong and just kept repeating herself in the same aggressive disrespectful manner. "you can't be here, this is a private restaurant. Get out now."

I will never come back here and won't write any articles about this place no matter how much my audience want me to review this place. The level of disrespect I've experienced here made...

The evening started nicely with three great courses and timely service, but then, as the restaurant started to fill up, things started to detoriate. The bulgogi was stringy and a bit hard to chew, but the worst was the soft ice, which was served only after a long wait as a puddle of cream. The waiter served it as if nothing was wrong, but confessed once we pointed out the obvious that the ice cream maker was broken. We got a partial refund and an apology, which was fine. However, at this price level, I would have expected them to not serve something like this in the first place, and come up with something else for dessert. They're situated in Mathallen, I'm sure they could have worked something out with a bit of thinking. Instead, as we were walking out, they continued to serve more of the same to other customers, as if nothing had happened. Not very reassuring, and enough to not come back for...

Interesting service choice for a Saturday afternoon. First we got ignored waiting at the door to be seated. One waiter stood face to face to us and rather looked at his feet than make eye contact. So we sat down at an empty table. Then after the “blind” came the “mute”, a waitress that looked at us twice and wasn’t able to reply TWICE to a simple “hi” and just smiled back. And then after another 5mins a third waiter came and finally talked to us, just to tell us that usually guests wait to be seated and I replied that usually we don’t get left at the door and ignored.
