Hos Peder is one of those rare gems that reminds you why you love going out to eat. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by an atmosphere that’s both warm and effortlessly cool — soft lighting, vinyl music, and that unmistakable buzz of people having a great time. It feels like dining in the home of someone who truly loves food and hospitality.
The menu is a masterclass in simplicity done right — small plates with big personality. Every dish we tried was spot on: the skirt steak with chimichurri was juicy and perfectly seasoned, the mussels with chili and coriander were full of depth and freshness, and the Szechuan wings had the perfect spicy kick. You can tell there’s serious skill and passion in that kitchen.
The service deserves special mention. The staff were genuinely kind, attentive without hovering, and clearly proud of what they’re serving. Their wine recommendations were excellent — interesting natural wines at prices you rarely see in Oslo. It’s the kind of service that makes you want to linger just a bit longer.
Value-wise, Hos Peder delivers far more than you expect. The quality of ingredients, the creativity of the dishes, and the overall experience make it one of the best dining spots in the city, hands down. Whether you’re out for a date, a dinner with friends, or just want to treat yourself, this is the place to go.
It’s cozy, it’s delicious, it’s honest — and it’s run by people who...
Read moreWe booked a table for a Saturday evening, and the place was full.
We had 5 dishes for 2 people: beef tartar, fries, green beans with ponzu sauce, mushroom risotto, and the fish. The mushroom risotto was our favorite, rich in taste and well balanced. The beef tartar and the fish were okay. The fries were very salty (we struggled to finish them), and the green beans were unexpectedly spicy (we also struggled to finish them).
The menu is definitely creative and offers new and exciting flavors. Unfortunately, the execution of the dishes was not on point for us.
The portions are also moderate. For someone who doesn’t eat much at night, one dish and a side (like bread or fries) can be enough.
We paid around 1200kr for 5 dishes and 2 glasses of wine. A bit on the expensive side—for that price we consider there are better options.
The mussels seem to be very popular, so maybe it’s worth taking a safe choice and going for that.
Finally, we had a good service and the waiting times were decent considering how busy the...
Read moreAmazing restaurant, probably one of the best in its category - (sort of) new Nordic style, moderate fusion elements, and smaller servings to share.
Very good by-the-glass wine menu. I opted for a glass of orange wine, two white’s, and one tokaji, and everything was great.
We were a table of two, ordered 5 dishes, along with bread and a cheese plate for dessert, it was slightly too much.
The best dishes of our dinner were the flank steak with chimichurri and grilled new cabbage (nykål). Both were exceptionally balanced with simple but amazing flavors.
To be extremely picky, the scallop ceviche would have a better texture if the bites were cut slightly bigger. The meat for beef tartare was not very properly cleaned (as in removing fascia), so the texture was not that smooth as it should be.
Still, Hos Peder delivered a nearly flawless dining experience, it is indeed a gem...
