Authentic South Indian Restaurant (MUST TRY!!)

As part of our road trip from Denmark to Norway with kids, we had the pleasure of stopping by Spisoh in Stavanger for dinner. Situated conveniently close to the charming old town of Gamle Stavanger, this South Indian restaurant proved to be the perfect dining spot to conclude our day of exploration.

Each dish at Spisoh was a revelation, freshly cooked and brimming with authentic South Indian flavors. The perfect balance of spices and the familiar taste made us feel at home, miles away from our actual home which reminded us our hometown taste. The standout for us was the Masala Dosa and the lamb curry. Even our children, who are usually quite discerning, couldn't get enough of it.

The warm ambiance of the restaurant, coupled with the attentive and hospitable staff, made our dining experience all the more memorable. Their dedication to service and ensuring customer satisfaction was evident, adding to the overall appeal of the restaurant.

In conclusion, our visit to Spisoh was a delightful surprise on our road trip, offering a culinary journey that transported us to the heart of South India. If you happen to be in or around Stavanger, we highly recommend making a stop at Spisoh for a meal. We're already looking forward to...

As we were going through the grueling Pulpit Rock trail, my Mallu wife had this little wish of eating some dosa. For flatlander’s coming from Florida like us, the hike was the hardest thing we did in Norway.

Imagine our surprise as we saw Spisoh - SOUTH Indian restaurant pop up when we googled Indian food and it was only 40 minutes drive. Was worried about parking the campervan in Stavenger, but was not hard as there were ample parking behind the restaurant.

And the food…it was just amazing!!! Haven’t had Kerala style porotta in years and it was soft and crispy…yummy. The dosas and its accompaniments were delicious. The curries were really good. Kuthu Kodi was one of my favorite items.

Maybe we were just starved, but we ordered a bunch of food and we essentially licked the plate clean with no leftovers. 😅

The service was great and one of the owners was a fellow Malayalee and was happy to hear they were only open a few months and doing great, as the Norwegians apparently like South Indian food.

We really loved our experience and thank you Spisoh team for fulfilling my wife’s wish and satisfying our soul when we needed it the most.

Wish we had some...

We were really hungry after a hectic day of hiking and were genuinely looking forward to a good meal—but unfortunately, the experience was frustrating from start to finish.

We waited 45 minutes for our food (have never had to wait this long for any dish. Also the restaurant was not buzzing with people so not sure what took so long), with no heads-up that dosas take over 20 minutes to prepare. We had also ordered prawns, and both dishes arrived together—cold, and well past a reasonable wait time.

We weren’t served water at all, and when we pointed it out while checking out, the owner casually said, “If you say so, maybe we didn’t,” as if he didn’t believe us. That response felt careless and unprofessional.

While they initially didn’t want to charge us for the dosa, we still ended up paying—for a cold, underwhelming dish that didn’t justify the delay.

The service was inattentive, the communication poor, and the food didn’t make up for it. After a long day, the last thing you expect is to wait 45 minutes for cold food and be treated like you imagined the poor service. Completely unacceptable. I wish I could give negative stars on...

We started with a selection of starters to share, Tellicherry Pepper Prawns, Kodi Vepudu which is a light stir fried chicken, Pakoras, and Samosa. All were beautifully spiced, and seasoned. Main courses were Crispy Dosa with chicken, Grand Chicken Biriyani, and Lamb Vindaloo. Dosa's were served with Curried Vegetable Dhal and sauces The Biriyani, was an elegantly spiced dish full of flavour and the Vindaloo, was rich and spicy without blowing your taste buds, my personal preference is for a little more chilli heat, but it was none the less delicious. The restaurant itself is recently refurbished, and is decorated in warm and inviting colour. It is not overly decorated to show its south Indian heritage, but is quite a pleasant place to sit and enjoy a meal and good conversation with friends. One thing to note is that the restaurant is attracting many South Asian customers, always a good sign that the food is genuine and appealing. Prices were also very reasonable.Staff were very friendly, service was great. Will definitely be returning to sample some of the other dishes on the menu.

WOW! We found a real gem! The food here is so delicious we could not stop talking about it all night after our visit! I had a Kerala style chicken curry with coconut milk and my partner had Milagu Karri (Tamil Nadu style) spicy chicken and we also got two portions of a bread called parotta (if you thought the naan was amazing, wait till you try parotta! It is soft but crispy, buttery but feels light and has many layers to soak in the curry sauce). It is definitely our number one Indian bread now! The chicken is juicy and flavorful and the portions are very generous:) The entire experience of eating here was a pure pleasure also thanks to the amazing, kind and friendly staff. The team running the restaurant is the loveliest bunch of people I have come across in Norwegian restaurant industry and I cannot wait to visit them again and if I have a chance to go to Stavanger.

Great food at a good price and probably the most urban "big city" location in Stavanger. Finding the pick up point for the food felt like a scene out of a movie or tvseries and actually ads to the whole thing in my opinion. A small door with a sign dwarfed by huge silos in an abandoned industrial setting that would hold up in any movie frames the entrance. Walking through it to pick up the food you feel like you have been let in on a secret, one of those special places only locals go because you have to know to know. Very cool:) The food was great as well and I was full when done(I'm a big guy;) Will 100% order here again and recommend you to try it out to.
