I had an absolutely beautiful dinner here with my family here. Although the prices were somewhat high, it is Norway and had a much better value than many of the places in which we had eaten. Firstly, the service was incredible. The waiters/waitresses were all lovely and friendly, and the way in which the menu was presented felt very intimate and even fun. The tuna tataki which we started with were absolutely delicious (shown in one of the images below). One running theme with the dishes presented here were the layers; how beautifully they worked together. A rather exotic mixture of edible flowers and leaves, as well as the avocado and perfectly seared tuna made for an incredible appetiser.
The mains following were just as astonishing. The catch of the day I had (pollock) with grilled root vegetables and shellfish foam. Incredible. Again, the layers worked beautiful to concoct a harmonious symphony of flavours. Although I could make a small complaint that the fish was slightly salty, it mostly worked to enhance the background flavours making the dish more powerful. The shellfish risotto they served next was also incredible. The mild tastes of the rice and overall sauce playing with the rich shellfish and peppers flavours were like Mahler's Symphony No. 5 in C minor. The experience builds over time of it being in your mouth.
Finally, the dessert. We were a bit hesitant to order since we had already had so much to eat, but I am glad we did not skip out on this one. We got a cheese platter of four different types of Norwegian cheeses with biscuits and a lovely fig chutney as well as some mascarpone with some fruit pieces. It was just lovely.
Even the bread here (some focaccia and brown rye bread) were amazing with the aioli they provided.
This is a place for which it is definitely worth saving up. It is incredible and I would recommend that if you're visiting Stavanger, it would be unfortunate for you to miss...
Read moreUnfortunately, today we were very disappointed and had a very bad experience with one of their waitresses.
Initially we were served with another waitress I do not know her name (she was polite). We ordered a big portion of one fish soup and one catch of the day dish as well as one small portion of mussels. We asked the first waitress to have the soup and the catch of the day as a shared dish and she said OKAY we'll do it. This lady has disappeared later, and we waited for around 30 minutes for the food.
Then another waitress came with all dishes together. She brought the soup and the catch of the day in one full portion (not shared in two plates). I told her that this was not my request. Then she tried to force us to eat the food as is in one big portion and also she was mad then after my refusal, she grabbed the dishes in a rude way without even an apology.
Then a guy came with the same dishes trying to force us to eat them in one portion AGAIN!. I explained him what was the request and that we want two smaller portions. Only when I said that I will not pay for them if they do not make it as I wanted, he took them and brought them again as requested.
As a result of that, we ate cold food with very bad and poor service. This was not the first time to visit the restaurant and not the first time to ask for shared dishes. After that I made a verbal complaint to the manager in charge. I explained the situation, she did not ask the waitress to say sorry for her impoliteness or even tried to do anything.
I have just sent an email to the restaurant with the formal complaint and the name of the waitress. Awaiting their response. I will update this review later.
Our first visit was awesome, but the second was awful. This will definitely be...
Read moreVery overpriced meals with more sallad filling than actual substance.
In short i would describe this place as a typical overpriced tourist trap to avoid.
Of our 3 different menu items only 1 was even remotely acceptable. Catch of the day was fine, nice sauce and reaaonable serving size.
The "largest shrimp sandwich" as it was called on the menu was a joke. A very small handful tasteless shrimps on a huge bed of raw mixed sallad to give the illusion of size without actually having to serve anything of worth. The bread wasnt bread, it was a thick slice of the same foccacia bread served in the bread basket drenched in a dill mayonnaise. 310nok for 90% sallad, the wrong bread and 4 slices of cucumber and radish with a tiny portion scrimp. No, just no. Blasphemous.
The spicy salmon sallad was even worse. Imagine the largest bowl (akin to a family sized ramen bowl) filled with 700grams of the same plane mixed sallad, thick pieces of chopped chilli peppers (not even de-seeded) and 6 tiny pieces of plain raw salmon. Again, amazingly stingy protein portion size. Just a bunch of bland sallad that likely came pre-packaged.
I assume this place would be nice on a hot summer day while enjoying a beer and maybe something else on the menu. For lunch however this was the biggest disappointment in...
