TLDR; A case of difference in expectations vs real life. Food was OK (good value for money), wine bundle was a mistake. Read on for full review.
We went to the restaurant based on the recommendations from a clerk at a local high class hotel. When we found that it had such high ratings on Maps expectations were high. I ordered a predefined 3-course meal (specified in the menu): starter was a sald with smoked trout. I love trout but this salad had way to much dressing IMO. The main course was entrecote (boneless rib-eye i guess). I asked for it to be served medium-raw. The stake was tasty and came with a bernaisse butter dash (to salty IMO), but it was prepared a bit unevenly so some parts were to raw. The dessert was fresh strawberries with whipped cream. You cant really go wrong with that, it was lovely!
With the 3-course meal i ordered a predefined wine serving and this is one of my biggest conplaints with my visit at Bistro: the wine bundle was not specified at the menu and when the waiter / waitress came with the wine there was no introduction to it. It was just «here is your wine». Ordering a predefined wine package I would expect a bit more. And also the wines were boring. Coming in at a price of 445 NOK just for the three wines I would say it was absolutely not worth it.
The 3-course meal with a wine bundle costs 920 NOK. Just the 3-course meal cost 475 NOK which I would say is a good value for you money (although I feel some of the courses could have been better).
I wish I could give a rating of 2.5 since this was an average OK dinner experience (with higher expectations), but im gonna give it the benefit if my doubt...
Read moreNice French restaurant. A very energetic waiter served us and we chose the three course dinner. The waiter was very attentive and rich in giving information. Wine pairing included which was a very fitting combination, hats off to that. The one star deduction came from the sudden rush of people that entered the restaurant, that seemed to confuse the waiters. They suddenly had no more time for you and we got our main course dumped in front of our noses without any further explanation of what is was (yet we were given lengthy and useful explanations with course 1 and 3). Also playing some French chansons instead of mainstream easy listening classic rock could have helped to elevate the French atmosphere. I would however still recommend to pay this place a visit as the food was very tasty. The Bistro Sour is a cocktail to not...

We had the privilege of the five course tasting meal. It’s been a several days since we had gone and we can’t stop talking about how amazing this meal was! The waitress was SO nice and very well educated. The wine list was a book and the food was crafted to perfection.
I’m trying to figure out how I can go back to Trondheim just so I can eat here again.
If you aren’t up for a full five courses; I recommend the ceviche, pesto pasta (actually a cream based pasta) and the lemon meringue. Plus the wine...
