Terrible sums it up quite nicely. When we arrived for lunch there was a pallet of frozen premade food from Asko sitting in the sun on the sidewalk beside the entrance so we basically knew the menu before we got inside. Once inside the modern, trendy and basically empty restaurant a surly and grumpy server eventually pointed us to a table which was right beside the only other seated table. Weird but okay, I decide to go for the premade bao buns from Asko cause they're okay usually. And these would have been okay if they had bothered to steam them from frozen but these must have been left out uncovered to thaw 'cause they were dry and crunchy on the edges and really cold, like from the fridge cold. The only thing that was warm was the one tempura prawn I got in the one bun. So I surmise that that is the only product they actually heat treated to complete my order, the rest of the food was just pulled out the fridges and piled in the dry and crunchy bao buns. So terrible, absolutely terrible, and really expensive but they gotta pay for the flash interior somehow I guess. Also, even when you finally are successful in placing and paying for your orders, you need to double check that you get everything you paid for. In our case, a glass of wine disappeared from our order, even though it was on the receipt. And after struggling with the buggy phone-ordering, the waiting begins. We waited 1h15min from placing our order until our food arrived.
When the food finally arrives, you have to take care to eat it quickly! After two hours we were asked to leave, as someone else would need our table. This left us with a total of 30 minutes to enjoy our food, after struggling with a buggy ordering app and waiting for our food forever.
All in all a very disappointing experience, not worth the prices asked.

Read moreEtter å ha besøkt Sumo Restaurant i Trondheim, ønsker jeg å gi en ærlig tilbakemelding på min opplevelse. Når jeg vurderer sushi, legger jeg særlig vekt på kvaliteten på risen, da dette ofte er avgjørende for den totale smaksopplevelsen. Dessverre var sushiopplevelsen på Sumo Restaurant skuffende, og den dårligste jeg har hatt så langt. Risen var klumpete, kald og smakløs, og minnet om ferdigkjøpt sushi fra Rema 1000. Det virket som om den hadde vært laget på forhånd og oppbevart i kjøleskapet, noe som ikke er akseptabelt.
Nigiri-sushi var også tørre og smakløse, det var særlig tydelig i laksen, som ikke var så fersk og god som forventet. Råvarekvaliteten var overraskende lav, noe jeg vanligvis ikke opplever på sushirestauranter. Til og med wasabien var tørr og lite god, som om den hadde stått ute i luften for lenge. Deluxe Maki 1 hadde noen bedre biter med saus og eple, men jeg foretrekker vanligvis renere smaker i sushi.
På den positive siden var servitøren fantastisk og en av de beste jeg har opplevd. Personen var engasjert, imøtekommende og gikk utover det en kan forvente. Også det øvrige personalet var hyggelige, og stemningen i restauranten var god.
Til tross for det gode servicenivået, vil jeg dessverre ikke komme tilbake til Sumo Restaurant for å spise sushi og vil anbefale andre å ikke dra hit. Kvaliteten på sushien står ikke i forhold til prisen, og det finnes bedre alternativer i Trondheim.

As a chain restaurant, we use the same producers for all our restaurants and aim for the best quality on food and service. The asian fusion cuisine might not suit everyone and of course we understand that. Hope you will visit us again soon and have a much better experience!".
