La Quesería Craft Cheese & Wood Oven — Restaurant in Arequipa

Ordered a cheese plate. Basic cheeses. Far better selection available at the Santa Clarita market for much cheaper. Adding stale almonds and raisins to the cheese board isn't do anything to enhance the experience. Since wood fired pizza is suppose to be thier thing and the reason we went there we ordered a pizza. It was not cooked in a wood fired oven and was more a flat bread rather than a proper pizza. We decided to take the remaining pizza home. It was placed as is into a paper bag. We ordered 2 beers that were supposedly brewed on site. At 18 soles each they were a ripoff. One was flat a minute after we poured and the other had a citrus taste. The final straw was when I paid by card they asked for my passport number. I have paid for dozens of items and resteraunt bills in peru and have never been asked that info. If that is standard practice at this place, they should make a notice of it. On a Friday night we were only 1 of 3 groups that arrived. It is a shame. The evening started well, waiter being kind and recommending us a nice bottle of wine. After being told some of the toppings we wanted are not available (mushrooms) we saw a lady running with some canned mushrooms in her hand towards the kitchen. Even though we were the only people there when we ordered, it took around 45 mins for our pizzas to be ready. We decided to get up and pay the bill by card at the bar. During this time the waiter ran to the table to see if we left any tips there. He changed his attitude completely and started to speak about us in spanish to one of the staff behind the bar while we were still there. Wandering around town we got tired and just wanted a snack and a beer and there it was. The owner and the cook were very friendly and welcomed us in. We wound up getting a good pizza with a special craft cheese that was a little more sour tasting than other pizza cheeses but was very good and complimented the black olives on the pizza excellently. We over ordered and got garlic bread and a cheese plate too. The garlic bread could have used a little more garlic but were excellent as cheesy bread. Beer on tap...
