Barracones exceeded our expectations, not only fitting the definition of the new cevicheria in Lima: amazing food, great service and an unpretentious but full of personality decor. it was best value too!!! We tried the classic Ceviche Barracones and was one of the best I have tried in Lima in recent years; the Papa Reventada was a delicious reinvention of the papa rellena fully covered on lightly spiced seafood! And the superb service provided by Marco made us feel at home. The cost was surprisingly affordable for such a high quality food. Best Value in San Isidro for sure!! I have no doubt we are coming back very soon to try many other hidden treasures from the menu.
We just went back again and this time tried the Arroz Punta, truly outstanding!! Rice risotto style with roasted aji amarillo, artichokes, shrimp and burned parmesano coating!! A hidden gen. The ceviche with Conchas negras y corvina was something unique (with reminiscences of oysters) and the chocolate cake was top!!

No volveré.
Barracones Barra Marina is just down the street from our house, so we wanted to give it a try. We originally were going to eat at the restaurant, but on Sunday afternoon the place was full and the line for a table was a 2 hour wait. So we decided to skip the line and order to go. We ordered the Ceviche Mixto and the Sudado de Pescado. There was still a 40 minute wait. We walked home and I returned to pick up the food. The sudado appeared very different from every other sudado I have eaten. The fish was covered in a green sauce, the yuca and rice were on the side and there were some white beans in a red sauce. Whatever the green sauce was, it was so incredibly salty that it was unpleasant to eat. The fish was probably bonito, which is a moderately tough fish, and the piece was approximately 150g. The yucca and rice were, by dint of being boiled, flavorless. The yucca would have been better if it had been cooked in a broth. The beans seamed to be in a cheese and tomato sauce, which was not palatable given my allergy to dairy. The ceviche mixto, compared to other ceviche mixto I have eaten, had lots of octopus. It also had some muscles and squid, along with yam, onions and choclo. It was OK, but nothing to rave about and a medium sized portion. If I had waited 2 hours for this food, I would have been upset! Total for the two dishes was S./95 (S./40 for the ceviche and S./54 for the sudado.) all in all, it was an over-priced, mediocre meal. I...
Read moreFood here was outstanding! The “tortitas de choclo” was something I have never had in my life before and when I tell you, they were absolutely amazing! Full of flavor! We also had the “tiradito del callao a san isidro” for an appetizer and that was also to die for. The flavors were so unique and perfect! It felt so fresh and had avocados and parmesan cheese, the mix of flavors was delicious. I ordered the “pesca la menier” and wow!!! What a great dish!! This fish was so tasty and the mashed potatoes to go with it was perfect. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake and I couldn’t have been more pleased. Usually, I am skeptical to try chocolate cake because I feel they can be very sugary but this one was not. It was the perfect amount of sweet and the cake was fluffy and moist. Absolutely amazing experience! From the staff, to the location and atmosphere to the food! If you happen to be in Lima, definitely check them out - you will not be...
