I am obsessed with picarones. Being a Peruvian who grew up in the US their entire life, I’m only able to consume picarones if my mother makes it, which isn’t often because some of the ingredients (for the syrup) are hard to find where we live, or when I visit Peru. This is by far one of the best picarones I’ve had! So perfectly made. So perfectly fried. The syrup wasn’t too sweet. Everything was perfect! My Peruvian family also treated themselves to mazamorra morada. It was served warm and wowww, so delicious. Another perfectly made treat. It was sweetened just right. I highly recommend having both the picarones and mazamorra morado. My Peruvian family gives this place a perfect 5 ⭐️

Great place in all aspects if Anticuchos is what you are looking for. This place was recommended by my walking guide as a must for and exclusively for Anticuchos, and .... Boy was he right !!!. The Anticuchos completely overturned my take on what a skewer should be. These beauties where uterfly and completelyn tasteful from beginning to end!, be it warm or cold, the Anticuchos were spiced and cooked to taste amazingly. Definitely a must stop if you are around and are not vegetarian or vegan. The other "vísceras" accompanying the Anticuchos were tasty as well, although, the main dish did took over the whole dish.

Terminé en este lugar porque casualmente Isolina estaba cerrado ese día debido a ser un día festivo y cerraron a las cinco de la tarde. Sin embargo, había escuchado recomendaciones sobre ‘El Tío Mario’, especialmente en lo que respecta a los anticuchos, y debo decir que la comida estuvo bien en general. No alcanzó la excelencia, pero se ubicó en un nivel intermedio. La comida es buena y los precios son razonables. Aquí puedes encontrar auténtica comida peruana sin duda. Los anticuchos, en particular, son muy sabrosos. Las porciones que pedí resultaron ser bastante generosas. Además de los anticuchos, probé la causa limeña y los picarones como postre, y en general, disfruté de cada plato. Salí bastante satisfecha. La chicha morada que sirven es deliciosa. La atención en el lugar es buena y relativamente rápida, y los precios son justos. El ambiente en sí no es elegante, sino más bien rústico. Aunque no tuve la oportunidad de ver la vista hacia el Puente de los Suspiros, considero que ‘El Tío Mario’ es una opción adecuada para probar comida típica peruana a precios razonables. Definitivamente, es un lugar que recomendaría para una experiencia gastronómica auténtica.

This place is a gem! The service is nice and helpful and about the food oh God!! Their Anticuchos are one of the best in the country. Their desserts are also amazing especially the Picarones and the Suspiro a la Limeña ( as you can see in the picture). If you’re a firs timer in Peru and want to try traditional food in a lovely and cozy place you should definitely go to Tio Mario!!

Cuando pienso en anticuchos, mi mente viaja directamente a ese rincón al lado del icónico Puente de los Suspiros, donde he disfrutado de los mejores anticuchos que jamás haya probado. 🍢 Desde 1987, el mismo año de mi nacimiento, El Tío Mario ha sido un referente culinario en Barranco. Empezaron humildemente, sirviendo deliciosos anticuchos desde una modesta carretilla, y con el tiempo, se transformaron en una imponente casona de tres pisos que respeta y exalta la arquitectura tradicional del barrio. Es impresionante pensar en la evolución del lugar y la constancia con la que han mantenido la esencia y calidad de sus platillos. 🏠 Y si bien los anticuchos son el corazón del lugar, no puedo dejar de mencionar esos picarones divinos que siempre elijo para cerrar la experiencia. Crujientes, dulces y perfectos, son el complemento ideal para una comida inolvidable. 🍩 Visitar El Tío Mario no es solo disfrutar de una comida, es ser parte de una historia de perseverancia, sabor y tradición que lleva más de tres décadas deleitando paladares. Si te encuentras por Barranco, es una parada obligatoria. ¡Buen provecho! 🌉🍴
