Tucked away in the artistic heart of one of Lima’s most enchanting neighborhoods, the Jade Rivera Museum is a deeply moving tribute to an artist whose works you've probably seen plastered over the many buildings you've passed by in Lima.
Rivera’s works are surreal yet grounded, intimate yet universal. The recurring themes of everyone having a key to their own destiny and the possibility of coexistence with nature are uplifting. Birds often appear as a motif in his work as symbols of freedom and as companions to his hauntingly tender figures. Rivera speaks to the quiet struggles of modern life while offering a glimmer of transformation.
The experience was profoundly enhanced by Carolina and another guide whose name I forgot to ask (lo siento!) . Their knowledge of Rivera’s works and themes was as expansive as it was accessible. Without being asked, they approached me and guided me through Rivera’s narratives, unpacking his visual language with care and thoughtfulness.

Read moreI initially came to the Bridge of Sighs to see the murals and walk the bridge. But I wanted to learn more about Jade Rivera’s work and visited this exhibit. The staff inside was very helpful and passionate about the Rivera’s work and I really appreciated her English explanations on the symbolism in his work. I’ve come to learn Rivera is someone who advocates for equality of rights and opportunity and strives to instill hope into the minds of marginalized children. I had no real understanding of the murals, but this exhibit has allowed me to understand his work on a deeper level. I would really recommend you take a visit! I came early to this location so I had the opportunity to ask about pretty much every piece, if you are interested in murals or art, I would try to come by early as I saw a couple groups in there as I...
