Wow, what a place. We came for the cocktails which were great but were blown away by the food. The cocktails all have a unique Peruvian spin and Alonso explains it in perfect English when they're served. They're excellent.
The food was amazing. We had the Sea Urchin special, scallops, mussels, rib eye and caramelized bread for desert. The Urchin, Scallops and Mussels were better than anything I've had at a tasting menu place including the French Laundry and Pujol. They each had about 4 flavors that presented themselves in succession. Each bite was amazing. A perfect blend of savory, seafood, sweet, bitter -- very imaginative and amazing in execution, presentation and experience. I'm not schooled enough to explain it but can appreciate the skill.
We got lucky with a same day reservation on a Wednesday. Apparently they're very booked up. The place is small and has an indoor/outdoor concept. We were seated at a table but told them we'd love to sit at the bar if possible. 10 minutes later they took us to the bar. You can tell the whole staff (waitstaff, hostess, bar staff, kitchen) are invested in the success of Lady Bee and they all work as a team. It's refreshing to see. Would love...
Read moreAn international gem! It’s a pinnacle of mixology and a great find by the top50best team. Run by a humble couple Gabriela and Alonso, very unassuming but like top mixologists Gabriela treats ingredient sourcing like chefs, hunting for unique flavors and even foraging wild ingredients from the amzaon, Huatata and many others. (As a side, the current #1 bar on the list used to like Lady Bee couple of years ago :) until it became like Disneyland show.
Lady Bee has many cocktails that are from mysterious to refreshing. They are presented with key sourcing actual ingredients with the drink which is much more enlightening than smoke and fire shows elsewhere. My favorites are "Oca Mashua and Codium".
Along with the cocktails, the food menu is top notch, with less is more approach. Especially the steak and scallops are superbly done.
Any visit to south America deserves a stopver at Lady Bee along with the many top restaurants of the world. Congratulations...
Read moreI found this place online and it sounded like it had great reviews. I knew it wasn’t a full service restaurant, but I was expecting a little more variation in the menu. My friend and I honestly could not find anything we wanted on that small plates menu except for some bread. Everything was raw or kind of odd like the barnacles. (Those are on bottoms of boats. No thanks!) We ordered a couple of drinks and even those were a disappointment. I ordered the Bees Knees, because I thought that was the safest thing out of all the odd concoctions on the menu. There was just an odd taste to the alcohol. I’ve never not been able to sip a drink. I could not even sip it. It was like pure grain alcohol going down our throats. Big disappointment and we had to leave and go back to our hotel to get a decent dinner (and drinks). The staff was very nice and the atmosphere is fun. But there weren’t many people there and it seems evident the menu...
