Pico y Tapa - Restaurante Español — Restaurant in Lima Metropolitan Area

Pico y Tapa is a place with excellent decoration, friendly service, although not professional (this is a difference rarely commented), good environmental music (with videos) ... and bad food. It is a Spanish restaurant.

My experience started yesterday: when I arrived at noon, I ordered a menu (29 soles) that consisted of zuccini cream, Cocido Madrileño, cake and lemonade. To that I added an espresso.

After taking my order, the attentive waitress returned a few minutes later and told me that the Cocido would not be ready but in half an hour, so I had to change my mind already craving the blessed stew and asked for a Cachopo de Cerdo. So, part of the menus of the day ... was not available at the opening hour.

The cream was disappointing, with a sweetish taste coming from I do not know where. The Cachopo, a whole institution in Asturias, here passes without grief neither glory and was accompanied by fried potatoes imbued in oil and with uneven color (product of re-used oil).

The lemonade was excellent, worthy of participating in a championship. The cake, accompanied by a marmalade, was not anything special either, but edible. The coffee was very good.

In the two hours I was there, I was the only client and, as I repeat, the service was not professional at all. The waitress, however, seemed concerned about knowing my experience and when I told her about it, she came back with the manager, with whom I shared my mental notes. One of the results of the conversation was her commitment to serve a Cocido Madrileño from the time of opening for the next day.

I kept my comments for a day, knowing that every business can experience a bad day and today I went back to Pico y Tapa. This time I did not ask for an entree or a menu, but rather the Cocido.

While my plate arrived, they brought me some fried sweet potato chips?... not fresh, already without the crunchy consistency they should have.

The Cocido Madrileño, that heir of the Sephardic adafina arrived, happily accompanied by an excellent bread and olive oil. It was very good, but without the contribution of a good chorizo. The dish was abundant and tasty. The lemonade (which I asked again) seemed jealous of yesterday's and was even better, if such a claim fits. The same dessert yesterday was not this time to my liking: since the keke had lost its freshness and having never been anything special, now it was just tasted. The cappuccino with which I closed my experience was good.

The men's room has an infamous decoration and the urinal was dirty.

The service to the tables, although friendly, leaves much to be desired in terms of the professionalism and I would not like to expand on this now. Suffice it to say that this time there were about 25 people eating between 12 noon and 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and the shortcomings were...

I went during Lunch Time and order the dish of the day. It was pretty basic: an onion soup, chicken in fungi sauce, creeps with nutella and orange juice (All for 27soles). The soup was ok. The chicken was completely dry, the sauce had no flavour, the fried potatoes were dripping in oil and weren't done. The creeps had too much dough and were saturated with fudge. So overall food-wise it was terrible. Nevertheless the atmosphere was nice, the music was cool and I will probably give it a chance for an after...

Asturian food in the heart of Miraflores! Don't be surprised if you feel like you're in Spain once you're inside, most of the regulars are expats from there and even the staff is!
