DO NOT BOOK MACHU PICHUU with Selina. Paid $700 (369 pp) for me and my boyfriend to visit Machu pichuu from Cusco.
The service from start to finish was absolutely appalling, deeply upsetting given the money we spent. As soon as we left Lima, it seemed we were somebody else’s responsibility.
We were told we would be picked up by minivan at 3.30am in the main square with a group of approx 20 people. However, what was in store was the complete opposite. We were told the night before it’s not possible to pick us up in the main square but we would have to go to the Selina Hostel. When we arrived there at 3.20 am, we were picked up at 4.20am, by a taxi man, with 4 other people in the taxi, who were NOT tourists. Nobody could communicate with us in English, the taxi, had NO seatbelts. The driver drove on the opposite side of the road the majority of the way, which was absolutely terrifying. He also demanded money of us when we got to Aguas Calientes. It was so so so intimidating. We refused to give it to him having paid $700 already!!!!! When we arrived in Aguas C, a Spanish only speaking tour guide brought us to a “hostel” where there was in fact no reservation made for us. They allowed a girl to book us in, who seemingly worked for the company. The room was SO SMELLY. (Ps we are backpackers, we don’t expect the ritz). The floors were wet, the towels provided were wet and dirty. The man working at reception was horrible to deal with. We were not told the hostels name prior to the trip, which makes sense now why. It has THE WORST reviews I have ever seen. Including receptionist shouting at guests, the rooms being not even fit for an animal to stay in. De Los Andes. It should be shut down I have never seen anything like it. Throughout this ordeal, SELINA WERE UNCONTACTABLE. And later sent me a message to say oh they “fixed” it by giving us a room in another hotel. Even though I demanded it. I’m absolutely shocked at the treatment we received. They pocket more than half your money. Booking accommodation that’s roughly $20 per night. But yet we paid $700.
I will revisit this review to ensure it is not deleted and other travellers do not get this treatment. I have visited so many countries on my travels, and thought highly of the staff at Selina; but when things don’t go right THEY DONT answer. Only hours after you’ve resolved the issue yourself.
SHAME ON YOU SELINA.
They connect with the company “happy travel adventures” which is run by just local people who don’t actually know what’s going on. Organise this trip personally; it’s much easier, cheaper,...
Read moreIt's more a hotel than a hostel. The rooms have a lovely look and are cared for. You always had to wait for a free bathroom.
Short overview. rooms offer a shelf and are inviting location is fine
no information on arrival no common area online information about activities was not up to date no hostel vibe at all / no chance to meet people not enough bathroom cabins
We had a room with shared bathroom. The room was fine and even offerd a shelf with hangers, although the room was really small which would be totally ok if there is a consume free common area available - but unfortunately there is no space at all to hang out and meet other people within the premises. There is a restaurant and bar at the ground floor but no area to hang out without consuming. The bathroom is shared between 4 rooms (so most probably 8 people). And it's really just one room including shower/bathtub, toilet and washbasin (as well as a bidet used as plant pot). So whenever you use one you are blocking all - so that results in a lot of waiting time. Seperating those from each other would really be an improvement.
When we arrived the only information we got was that there will be a free welcome drink at the bar. So we really made an effort to be there to get some information - but it was only the cocktail without any further information. So in the end we didn't feel very welcomed.
They had QR codes hanging out which were supposed to give you information about activities offered. We checked those and picked to free activities to include in our Itinerary - when we went to reception to book one was 40$ instead of being free, the other one didn't exist, shouldn't be to hard to get that up to date online...
I wouldn't recommend staying here, there are other hostel options nearby wich also offer shared kitchen/fridge and...
Read moreI have a terrible experience and will not recommend this hotel to anyone. I did not enjoy my stay for 3 nights. When I placed the reservation online with my bank credit card as 3rd party, it clearly showed all the amenities available , the prices and the types of rooms available. Our concern is the parking garage since we rented a car. It was difficult to contact the hotel and did not answer to confirm the amenities before booking. I trusted my bank website. It showed FREE breakfast was available, parking etc... 2nd. Upon arrival, we got the surprise our booking was for selina posada and not selina miraflores building with parking garage. We arrived around midnight. It was late and we were very tired. We argued with reception for about 30 min. It was not fair that they charged us $10 per day for parking garage. They did not post it in their website. Then we got the surprise, we have a shared bathroom?? 3rd. The reception staff is not well informed and not properly trained to handle situations like this. We are not the 1st ones with this inconvenience. Another couple arrived at check in and got same surprise. 4th. Reception then told us , ok Free Breakfast shows in our booking. At the beginning, reception contradicted themselves they had no parking garage. I was trying to talk with a manager with no avail. 4th. Plumbing issues with bathroom. The toilet overflows sewage water from the floor. Shower knobs do not work properly. I had to use the bathroom one level down and call reception staff couple of times to fix the plumbing issues. 5th. We woke up early morning and were ready before 9am for breakfast. A new reception staff told us No Breakfast in our booking. I am like. This is...
