Pulpo Paul - Surquillo — Restaurant in Lima Metropolitan Area

Found this place while looking for a ceviche spot and wow I was surprised by how good the food was and the service. Just to say that I have been back twice this week. On my first visit I tried the whole fried fish with rice, yucas fritas (fried yucas), and onion salad. We got as courtesy a small bowl of chilcanito (fish stock soup) and let me tell you it’s the best I have had in Lima, and I ended up ordering the full portion. The fried fish was fried amazingly that the find were so crunchy that you could eat them as well as the tail. Seasoned perfectly, and the rice was cooked very well as well. The onion salad (sarsa criolla) had to be the best I’ve had in a while as well. It’s so simple, but it’s all about the prep to make it taste perfect (They probably soak the red onion in water for a while before the preparing it). My second visit (today) we ordered the grilled fish, the chilcanito soup again, and the trio of arroz con marisco, ceviche con salsa de rocoto, and chicharon de pescado (fried fish “nuggets”). Once again every was off the charts, but my only suggestion today was that the arroz con marisco was a bit salty for my taste and we had to mix it with the white rice that came with the grilled fish. No cumplen con los parámetros y medias de bioseguridad, no piden carnet de vacunación , los baños estaban sucios, el personal de atención entrega la gaseosa y ni un vaso de plástico para tomarlo, trae la comida y ni cubierto le entregan a uno para comer la cachapa en este caso, este producto no es con solo maíz sino que también tiene harina, respecto al queso en su carta es de mano y lo entrego con queso guayanés o algo parecido, el mesonero más preocupado en que iba a pedir en vez de atender con los insumos básicos para estar en un local con.serbilletas, cubiertos y un vaso para el consumo de una bebida, para más colmo la arepa pelua su carne mechada o deshilachado con sinceridad es la peor que he comido en un local pienso que son mejores las de la calle cuando Pasa el chico que la vende y no paga impuesto, mi compañero pidió un perro caliente y del cual se desarmaba y no sintió la uniformidad de un producto simple , también pidió una arepa de pabellón que jamás en mi vida como venezolano tenía entendido que el pabellón criollo tiene. Palta fuera de eso fuera, la intensión que tengan de vender cantidad no es funcional para mi criterio y por último la arepa reina pepeada de la misma forma la palta o aguacate lo colocan expuesto afuera dando motivo que al darle el primer mordisco se caiga todo sobre el plato y no se pueda saborear el verdadero sabor del plato... Very good tequeños. To be honest that’s why I come back each time. Empanadas are also good. Unfortunately the servers need to be more attentive to the clients. I am not sure if the serve did 5 jobs behind the counter, but definitely we needed to go and ask each time...
