This was a wonderful surprise. Found this place by accident. I wandered around when my hotel didn't have electricity. It's not easy to find as it's up at the top of a secondary street next to the train station. I found it by the way I crossed the train tracks near my hotel.
So glad I found it. I started with a Pisco Sour, of course. It was made by I thought William (but maybe that's Wilian going by a couple of other reviews). He was a great guy who made me the drink with premium Pisco alcohol that they had. It was a terrific cocktail. He was also great to converse with.
Then I was supposed to go to the Alpaca Grill down the street for lunch. But since they were closed due to technical problems in their kitchen, I came back to Machu Pisco for lunch. I had the alpaca burger which was fantastic. I've had many a burger in my day and believe I'm a very good judge of them. In addition to the top notch burger, the French fries that came with it were near perfectly prepared (thick and crispy on the outside while soft on the inside). Really great meal.
Finally, the view from the dining room is just incredible. Right next to the river running down alongside some small mountains that sit on the opposite side of the river from the restaurant and then through mountain valleys...
Read moreAnnoyingly loud music. Way over priced, notably the drinks! Beers were 3 times higher than other restaurants in the area! Only saving grace, the food was quite good. But our server experience was absolutely horrible. He tried to up-sell our bill, twice! Once for a round of drinks and again later for dinner. It wasn't a small thing. Our bill should have been s.45. When we received it, it was marked 65. It would have not been corrected until we brought it to the attention of another server. To top it off, after all this, our server had the audacity to try to high five/fist bump me as we exiting, with a stupid cheeky smile. He simply tries to take advantage of tourists. We were with a trekking company, and the only suggestion that he had for them was to not use this restaurant. Unless they are getting getting bribed by this place, I can't understand how or why they suggest going here. Throughout much of my traveling, this was the worst dining experience of my life. Avoid this place! It's worse than covid. I'm only giving it 2 stars because the food was good. I only hope that the chefs are included in the tips this place receives. For better food and monumentally better service, go to Mapacho brewery and restaurant...
Read moreThis restaurant underdelivered in terms of food given its price in my opinion.
The good: We got a table near the window, and the view of the river was astounding! I liked the ceviche.
The bad: I ordered the cuy. It was quite expensive and was not tasty at all; it was very dry and barely had any meat. (I'm not just a tourist who doesn't like cuy —I later ordered cuy at a different restaurant in Lima for much cheaper and it was significantly better: it was tender and had lots of meat!) I also ordered the "Machupisco classic peruvian trio" which is a seafood dish that is meant to comprise of three smaller dishes, including deep fried trout. Mine was missing the deep fried trout — it came with the ceviche and seafood rice, and the trout was just replaced with a sauce. The ceviche tasted very good! My complaint is that I didn't really get what was described on the menu. A picture of this dish...
