Toilet leaked from the first day. Upon arriving we put down the shower mat as the toilet leaked from base of the toilet. The next morning breakfast was served without milk, yoghurt, hot dishes, fruit. 60% of what was advertised was not provided until we questioned.||We then contacted the manager about the breakfast and the toilet and had no response for hours, I then called the manager who hung up on me and rejected the next call (WhatsApp screenshots to prove). Later that day we bumped into a staff member who was aware of the situation and she offered us a pizza as compensation and advised she would get someone to look at the toilet whilst we were out.||We came back with and the now two shower mats which were soaking were layed out in the bathroom, toilet paper left wet in the shower and not replaced. No one advised us of the outcome of the plumbers visit and it wasn't until the next morning when the toilet was leaking yet again that we messaged the manager again. To no surprise we received no contact back from the manager and the manager refused to get on the phone with us or come down to discuss the issues at checkout until midday (train out of Aguas Calientas was 10.30am). ||The staff had advised that the plumber had told them the issue was the shower making the floor wet and now the toilet. This is impossible as overnight no shower was taken yet at 4am the floor was soaked.||Total denial here from the manager who refused contact or to accept the unhygienic state the bathroom was in. No partial refund was agreed and only another lunch was offered as compensation.||Now the manager messages us telling us that we are just trying to get money and in response to us laying a complaint with the Peru consumer protection agency that his lawyer will fight this.|Worth noting we were charged more than what we were quoted on booking.com even when you take into account the additional VAT/Tax.||Totally shocking and a real sour note to our holiday in the beautiful Aguas Calientas.||P.s|Construction noises all night, windows on the 5th floor that are a death trap and no fan able to be provided. |Book at...
Read moreAvoid Taywa Restaurant at All Costs – Worst Experience in Peru!
Our visit to Taywa was, without exaggeration, the worst dining experience of our entire trip to Peru. We ordered 3 American breakfasts, which were quoted at S/. 35 each. They had no electricity and informed us they couldn’t make juice – understandable. We asked for a discount due to the missing item, and they agreed to take off S/. 5. But when it came time to pay, they charged S/. 42 per breakfast – higher than the original price, despite the missing juice.
When we reminded them of the price they themselves had quoted just minutes earlier, the staff became aggressive and confrontational, refusing to honor what they had said. This bait-and-switch tactic is completely dishonest and unacceptable.
To make matters worse, there was a large, muzzled dog — clearly domesticated but anxious and poorly controlled — roaming freely inside the restaurant. At one point, it lunged at my son, creating a genuinely frightening situation. The staff showed no concern, no apology, and made no attempt to remove the animal.
We’ve had incredible experiences throughout Peru, but Taywa stands out as a glaring exception. Deceptive pricing, unprofessional service, and an unsafe dining environment make this a place to avoid entirely. There are plenty of great, respectful restaurants in Aguas Calientes — Taywa is not...
Read moreWe ordered a chicken stir fry which turned out to be a beef stir fry. Didn't send it back since it took nearly 25 min to get the dish despite we are the only 2 guests there. Most of the sides that came with the stir fry seemed to be from either overnight or yesterday. We also ordered beef heart skewers which were served barely warm and were very difficult to chew. Side dishes were old as well. Suspecting thu were from last night as well. Last, there's a lack of communication. When paying the bill, I gave a 100 dollar bill and was expecting a change. The cashier took my bill and went to a different room without saying anything. I waited for about 5 min and went after her since I got a train to catch. After confrontation , the cashier seemed displeased and took the change out of her pocket (unsure if the cashier...
