Touristy restaurant set in center square, so this also reflects touristy prices compared to great much cheaper local food. Ordered the guacamole nachos which were just a few fried wontons. Some were very oily & some not, would have preferred more nachos of either corn tortillas or fried plantains that were less oily. But the guacamole was delish. The chica morada tasted freshly made, very different from what I know in bottles from the USA— so good! And for the first time ever ordered their grilled alpaca because it seems to be more affordable than the other restaurants here & some parts were on the dry side but still slightly tender. Would have preferred it to be more juicer but perhaps this is the way of the cut, but I have no knowledge of meats. The seasoning was tasty & served sizzling with small condiments. Would have preferred more of the chimichurri type & that creamy garlic one but the ketchup & mustard were unnecessary. Not with this meat. The side salad i couldnt eat because they sprinkled salt on it, and I was already overwhelmed with saltiness from the alpaca & guacamole. The mashed potatoes were good but I was hoping that they weren’t using boxed mashed potatoes because it had a thin consistency. It would be ashamed if they did because Peru has an affluence of potato varieties. I would have preferred a thicker, more authentic mashed potatoes. Anyways, its a touristy restaurant so the prices are hiked but still cheaper compared to USA restaurants...
Read moreThis place would have been great, but instead we had our entire dinner interrupted by a very drunk relative of the restaurant employees. He kept interrupting our conversation, coming to the table and trying to talk to us in slurred Spanish as he tried to keep his eyes open, attempted to touch my face, put his huge plate on our table trying to get us to eat it with him, and was leaning on the table with his hand on the grip of my very sharp dinner knife. The restaurant employees and relatives of the drunk guy kept walking by and did nothing to get him away from our table. When I asked for the check they finally took him and his food away from our table and sat him back at his table They brought the check out with the Chicha Morada we ordered at the start of our meal. We quickly drank the drink and paid so we could get out of there before the drunk guy came back. This was a terrible...
Read moreNice ambiance, okay food, poor service. Maybe it was just an off night?
I ordered tea and it didn’t come out until just before my food. The meal (which was good enough, but nothing special) arrived on a plate that looked nice but was very impractical, as it was awkward to eat off and allowed the salad dressing to leak all over the table. I had to make a little napkin dam. When I was ready to pay, I had to hunt down the server (after waiting some time) even though I was the only customer at the time.
Prices have gone up since the most recent menu photo (as of writing this) and the dish and experience just wasn’t worth the s/40 or so. I had much better food and service for the same (or even half) the price at other places in the area.
If they could just add a bit more love and care into the food and service this could be...
