We visited this restaurant for trying to have lunch as it was so highly rated on TripAdvisor. We were absolutely shocked by the customer service here and ended up leaving the restaurant.
After entering the completely empty restaurant we were stood there for a good minute or two while being completely ignored. The waiter didn't bother greeting us, let alone showing us to a table. We decided to just pick a table ourselves and sit there. Again the same problem: The waiter didn't bring us the menu for a very long time and in the end we had to ask for it ourselves.
This is a lot of repetition, but once again, the waiter didn't come to us to ask us what we'd like to order and ignored us several times. After calling him repetitively, he finally came and we were able to order the food and drinks we wanted.
We were really disappointed by the service so far but didn't want to walk out because we were feeling bad. Another 2 men came in the restaurant and sat down. They left within 2-3 minutes without ordering. The food took forever to be made but we waited patiently. But once we saw one of the women working in the kitchen pick her nose standing right in the kitchen, we decided that this was too much now. I had lost all my appetite and we both decided (although slightly guiltily) to explain to the waiter that we're not going to eat there and we walked out.
In hindsight I was happy to have walked out because we ended up eating somewhere else where we actually were treated like a...
Read moreApu Veronica, located near the Plaza in Ollantaytambo, has two restaurants, with the restaurant on the second floor being the focus of this review. This restaurant comes highly recommended from Inka King Hotel, particularly for its lovely open balcony dining area that allows customers to enjoy the surrounding sights. Can't wait to come back again!
The menus are conveniently available in both Spanish and English, making it easy for customers to pick their food. We ordered several dishes, including Trout, Lomo Saltado, and Pollo Saltado. The Trout was particularly delicious, served on a hot stone and beautifully presented alongside Andean fries. Both the Lomo and Pollo Saltado, which feature beef and chicken, respectively, were as exceptional, showcasing the rich spices and flavours characteristic of this Peruvian signature dish. We were fond of the local spices and fries for our first time in Peru! Additionally, we ordered Coca Tea. We would suggest incorporating a mint component to enhance the flavour, particularly for first-time travellers adjusting to the altitude.
The staff at Apu Veronica are very kind and prompt in service. The restaurant accepts card payments, and they are fairly transparent about the service fee, or you can pay in cash. Also, they have lots of dining space on the balcony and inside at...
Read moreVisited in August 2024. Perú. Ollantaytambo. We found this restaurant based on positive reviews and, despite the construction detour, we managed to reach it. The restaurant itself is quite small but has multiple levels; we found a table on the balcony overlooking the mountains.
Food: The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, but we mainly opted for grilled options. Our appetizer was a stuffed avocado, a delightful dish with a fresh salad, creamy avocado, and a filling of finely chopped vegetables – an interesting and tasty combination. For our main courses, we had trout and grilled chicken breast. Both portions were enormous, accompanied by a fresh salad and fries. Both the chicken and trout were perfectly cooked. The size of the portions was truly astonishing. And, surprisingly, the presentation was on par with high-end restaurants.
Service: There was minimal service, but we were able to order our food, which was sufficient, as good service is hard to come by in the Sacred Valley. The dishes were prepared quickly, and dirty dishes were cleared. Overall, not bad.
Conclusion: We didn't expect to find a restaurant of this caliber in terms of food preparation and presentation in such a small village. But the food was cooked to perfection, and I recommend this restaurant. I think it's the best place in the...
