We had an absolutely magnificent first dinner here in Ollantaytambo! Amanto restaurant was highly recommended by our hotel Intitambo Hotel. It was just a short 3 minute walk away and the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted and shown to a lovely table for our entire party. Because we were a party of five, we were able to pretty much sample the entire menu!
They brought an amuse-bouche of roast potatoes and a salsa picante mayonnaise which were absolutely scrumptious and devoured immediately. For the appetizers we sampled the alpaca carpaccio, quinoa crusted shrimp, signature salad and quinoa soup and we ordered the cuy (Guinea Pig), steak, lamb and quinoa and chia seed crusted trout. Again, all of these dishes were cooked to Perfection and plated artistically. Felicitaciones al chef!
The big surprise came at the end when we settled up our bill and it was a lot less than we had expected and we even received a 10% discount because we are guests at Intitambo Hotel. Between the delicious food, top-notch service and the warm reception in this charming restaurant, this is a very...
Read moreWe came here after reading all the great reviews. The restaurant is very nicely designed. Staff is friendly and attentive. They were playing modern jazz and lounge cover songs, which I enjoy. Pisco sours tasted good. My wife and I enjoyed both the corn soup and chicken soup, although the portions are quite generous. Unfortunately when my main dish arrived I was fully disappointed. When I order what is being called a tender rack of lamb, I envision a slab of meat with a seared exterior, rendered juicy fat, hanging on a bone. What I received was thin strips of dry, fatless meat, rolled in a ball, with 3 bones stuck into it. It was pretty, but there is absolutely no way this was lamb rib meat. It reminded me more of overcooked boiled roast beef. I think the staff realized my displeasure, but due to my poor spanish we decided to not be...
Read moreGreat food, friendly staff, beautiful setting and beautiful food. I went with the club sandwich over a traditional dish because I was very curious how Peruvians would make one. As an American I’ve eaten probably 100+ club sandwiches in my life and this was easily top 5, delicious, I ate the entire sandwich which is rare for a club, and it was big too! My girlfriend’s traditional potato dish was also very good and truly beautiful in presentation. I highly recommend even if you are the only people there, like we were when we ate! Update: we ate an early dinner here the next day too after a long hike to inti punku, the quinoa chicken tenders were delicious! If we stayed another day in Olly we would have come back again! Highly...
