Final Update – July 20 My friends and I came back today for our meet-up. I truly appreciate the management’s effort to improve the overall guest experience. Our favorite server was there, and the rest of the staff were also attentive and friendly.
They also have an improved menu—loved their Hawaiian pizza! I’ll definitely be back to try their new crepes next time. They look so yummy!
3rd Update 😊 The management intentionally reached out to me and offered a sincere apology. I appreciate that — it’s rare for management to acknowledge feedback like this. Their response shows a genuine desire to make things right and improve their service. I’ll share a final update after I get the chance to return and experience it again.
Updated Review – Disappointed Tonight
Unfortunately, I had to update my review after our dinner tonight with friends. I’ve always liked Alvea and have even recommended it to others, especially because of the consistently good service from the usual young mestizo server—he’s always kind, accommodating, and professional.
But tonight was a letdown. We had a different server who, while initially polite, gradually became impatient as the evening went on. He kept coming back and forth to our table, making us feel rushed. I specifically chose Alvea because it’s usually a relaxing place to talk, even if it’s a bit out of our way.
Then at 8:14 PM, he told us we could only stay until 8:30 PM. I asked why, since their signage—and even Google—states they’re open until 10 PM. He replied that they close at 8:30 because they need time to clean.
Interestingly, a man walked in around that time—who I assume was the owner. It seemed like his arrival was unexpected. After that, the server stopped pressuring us, but by then, the mood had already shifted and we had to rush our goodbyes.
I left feeling really disappointed. I’ve been dining here regularly—my bills rarely go below ₱1,000, and for the past two weeks alone, I’ve spent over ₱3,000 per dine in. The food, especially the umami sauce, is still excellent. But tonight’s experience made me think twice about coming back.
Previous review: Love their drinks—delicious and reasonably priced! Smoothies made with fresh fruits, not skimped at all. Super thumbs up for their umami sauce! Definitely worth...
Read moreAlvea cafe is located on the edge of Scout Barrio Barangay and overlooks Camp John Hay Technohub and SLU Bakakeng with a wide and captivating view of Baguio pine trees.
The exterior of the hotel had relatively easy parking for small cars, and medium difficulty for large vehicles. Basement parking was also available as well as a guard on duty for assistance.
The interior is clean, comfortable, and perfect for families, friends, and business meetings. There was a highchair available that was made of wood, and had a cushion insert to keep children and babies comfortable, better than your average restaurant highchair! There were multiple seating options from wooden chairs to cushion loungers, great for those who want to stay long and work.
The food itself was what you'd expect but nothing more. We got the Umami Fries, 4 cheese pizza, truffle porcia pizza, truffle porcia pasta, cheeseburger, and caramel leche flan.
The umami fries were fresh cut string potato fries covered in kewpie mayo, bonito flakes, and nori. The bonito flakes are what makes it umami but this is usually not a child favorite.
Both pizzas were on the soggy side, crispy and chewy on the edges, but soggy underneath. The pro of this is that clearly less oil was used, the con being that the pizza falls apart when picked up.
Truffle pasta was great! The truffles and prosciutto were the star of the show and although on the blander side, the flavors mentioned were still prominant.
The Alvea cheeseburger was unfortunately not good, it was dry and bland, with a side of crisps that were bitter and unsalted.
Lastly, the dessert, the strawberry caramel leche flan; It was delicious, a sweeter leche flan than usual that doesn't completely darken the sugar on top. A unique leche flan experience. It was plated with strawberry jam all around and a torched meringue on top, definitely better than expected and a good way to end a meal.
Overall the food itself was a 3/5, but the ambiance brings this...
Read moreBefore the day-long black out at Baguio, I started looking for a place to hunker down to do a little work w wifi and power. Alvea was first to pop out from a facebook search. I had another option, but i am very glad i chose Alvea.
Staff was very accommodating to point out to me where to plug in and where i could sit so i can work in peace.
I had a whitechocolate drink with club sandwiches. I did not notice that the club sandwiches i got was for a group. Staff probably were surprised at the order seeing little old me alone asking for a big plate of sandwiches. But nonetheless, one of the best club sandwiches i had. Tho it was cold by the time i could chow down on it because of a sudden training i had to conduct while the sandwiches waited by my side tears With the whitechocolate drink, i had complementary mini pandesals that came with a strawberry jam dip. Scrumptuous is an understatement.
Late lunch, I had roasted pumpkin soup and avocado smoothie. Not the best of combos, but individually very good. Im a fan of pumpkin whatevers so the serving felt small for me since i wanted more. The avocado smoothie was very thick, but not a problem at all getting thru the straw. Very flavorful, not too milky and just the right amount of avocado.
Im looking forward to the next day-long black out in Baguio and wil bring friends next time. I know where to run to when things go dark and rainy in...
