In a nutshell:
I decided to give myself a "reward yourself" day and treated myself to a very delicious and tasty dinner over at Angus Dan's. This is my first time having US grade rib-eye steak, and they were delicious as ever.
For those going with a party, I suggest ordering their set meals. It may be a bit pricier but the servings are worth it.
I also suggest pairing your steaks with a good glass of wine - perfect match. Their desserts are also unique. It was also my first time having a "frozen brazo de mercedes".
Ambiance is also great - be treated like a VIP when you're at Angus Dan's, and I even enjoyed a quick chat with their staff - all very friendly and ready to answer any questions.
This is also a perfect place to go on a date as they have seat where you can just relax and enjoy the food and drink (I suggest getting the corner seat hehe)
All-in-all this was food paradise with all the trimmings - worth every peso lol
How to get there:
The landmark here is Chong Hua Hospital, just follow the (one way) road and you will see Angus Dan's signage, then make a left turn. For those taking public transportation, you will need to make a stop at Jones ave opposite the BDO branch (that's on the same block with Cebu Doctor's Hospital). You will have to walk a few meters though but it will not be a long walk.
Pros:
Ample parking (although it's pay parking during the day)
ambiance
that feeling of like a VIP when you take your seat LOL
US Grade Rib Eye steak (I suggest well done)
accommodating staff - very friendly and ready to assist you with the order
location - far from traffic and it's in a quieter neighborhood
Although their top grade steaks are a bit pricey, their other local steaks are actually budget friendly
lots of really good choices from pasta to desserts
Cons
I think the price is the only issue I have with this place, but it's really really worth it. And every once in a while, you need a break and pamper yourself. So why not here, right?
Conclusion:
This was a wonderful experience, and I am def coming back to try their other dishes. This was also my first time to taste those giant scallops, and they were tasty and juicy. Really worth the price. For those looking for that Wagyu beef, they...
Read moreAmbiance and Environment was great. Though, upon entering, we were greeted with dead mood. Almost zero energy and service aside from one guy.
We ordered mushroom soup which was good and better with a touch of black pepper.
Requested pepper and parmesan cheese on the side and they were quick to provide them completely with salt.
We ordered their Baked Hokkaido Scallops; the taste was gamey for a supposed "High Quality Scallop" which wasn't even prepped right; old and frozen, not even the cheese and butter it was baked in tasted any better.
When it came to their steaks, it was horrible. I myself know of a trend when it comes to steaks in the Philippines. I usually order steaks in Medium Rare. But I order steaks in Medium for a reason.
I ordered their Angus Ribeye steak and was offered a prime cut which I refused as i already was sceptical. When it came, together with my girlfriend's food, both looked like a medium until we cut it and discovered that the middle was still raw with its blood red color indicating that this was taken out of the freezer and directly unto the pan. Not even pink, but red. If this was cooked properly it would have looked pale in the middle especially that it was only a one-inch-steak. This only indicated that it was frozen. All their proteins were.
Their mashed potatoes had lumps and was tastless. Good thing I requested salt and pepper on the side.
Their salmon's skin wasn't crispy and the color was odd and pale. We expected fleshy color and pink in the middle and it tasted like a normal flavorless fish from the local market. If in fact, both the salmon and scallops tasted gamey which stuck unto our taste buds until we brushed it off with toothpaste and mouthwash when we got home.
This goes to show that the staff and restaurant does not care about their quality and not worth the price they charge for their food which was pricey. Everything was served cold where even their gravy was setting and separating except for the mushroom soup.
A bad experience...
Read moreANGUS DAN’S - CEBU CITY Reading the reviews and looking at the menu we decided to go for a steak.
The original server was attentive but struggled with English. Thankfully the Manager stepped in to help with our order.
I ordered the PRIME Ribeye at a much larger price, I asked for the steak to be cooked Medium Rare.. When I cut into the steak, I discovered the steak was a frozen one that had been undercooked and virtually raw. The steak was stringy, tough and a toe on the scale was the only way it could have reached 400 grams. About 100 grams was ‘fat’ on the outside of the steak but there was ‘no’ marbling within the steak.
The steak was P3000 and I could not eat it! Problems with this restaurant are the meat is below the Choice grade period. The cook is either inexperienced or just doesn’t care about his position.. He/She has not been properly trained which is the owners problem. The buyer of meats for this restaurant is buying subpar meat and either doesn’t know what he is doing or doesn’t care. There could be other factors at play…
I have lived in the RP for 20 years and unless I buy and cook the steak myself, I have not found a good steak anywhere…
The saving grace in this experience was Joan, the manager.. She handled the situation properly and would be the only factor in our coming back to...
