If you find yourself in Coron, Palawan, looking for a satisfying and delicious meal, Gavin's Kitchen and Bar is a great spot to visit. Here’s a quick look at two standout dishes we tried:
The Grilled Pineapple BBQ Ribs at Gavin's Kitchen and Bar are a must-try. The ribs are tender and fall-off-the-bone delicious, cooked to perfection with a smokey, slightly sweet BBQ glaze. The addition of grilled pineapple not only adds a refreshing burst of flavor but also balances out the rich, savory taste of the ribs. The smoky aroma, paired with the sweetness of the fruit, elevates the overall experience. It’s a great combination of sweet and savory, and you won’t want to put your fork down.
The Stuffed Grilled Squid is another highlight of the menu. The squid is perfectly grilled with just the right amount of char, giving it a nice, smoky flavor without overwhelming the natural taste of the seafood. The stuffing inside is a flavorful mixture, rich and slightly spicy, complementing the squid’s tender texture. Each bite offers a satisfying contrast of the crisp grill marks and the soft, juicy filling. It’s a wonderful dish for seafood lovers, showcasing the freshness and quality of ingredients that Gavin's Kitchen and Bar is known for.
Overall, the food at Gavin's Kitchen and Bar doesn't disappoint. The flavors are bold, the presentation is appealing, and the service adds to the pleasant dining experience. Whether you’re a fan of BBQ or seafood, this place offers an unforgettable taste of Coron’s...
Read moreHorrific experience, I don’t know how it has so many positive reviews. Arrived for lunch and was pretty exited considering the good reviews, tried to order a mojito, coconut (someone else had one) a classic burger, fried chicken and a chicken wrap. They came back saying they didn’t have the burger, mojito or coconut (must of had only 1 coconut for lunch service), so instead ordered a pineapple juice, beef fajita and margarita. The staff came out again stating they didn’t have fajitas (ffs) so with some standover pressure, ordered the Kare Kare (I’ve had it at other places many times) I thought even though they don’t have half of the stuff on the menu I’m sure the food will be great. Holy damn was I wrong, it was horrible, I could have easily made a chicken wrap myself with 5 ingredients and have it taste far better, was completely bland. The Kare Kare was actually inedible, it tasted like peanut butter paste mixed with dry rice and pork that looked and tasted like it had been in the sun for 3 weeks. The chips served with both tasted like soggy vegetable oil and the only redeeming quality was the fried chicken being halfway okay and the servers who I felt bad for as they had to tell us 4 times that things weren’t available. HALF THE AMOUNT OF ITEMS ON YOUR MENU, 100+ items of just food makes for a scattered level of quality, was very disappointing for the only place I was exited to...
Read moreHaving read all the high reviews for this place we were excited to visit. Staff were not very warm when we arrived. Menu looked promising with lots of choice - we went for the local food - chicken curry and vegetable kare kare. We also ordered hummus and pitta to start with. The hummus arrived the same time as one of our mains. The hummus was served hot(?) and it looked to be curdled. It also didn’t taste anything like hummus and have an overpowering taste of garlic. The vegetable kare kare lacked vegetables - one deep fried battered aubergine, green beans and some tofu. It also lacked taste and was quite bland. The chicken curry arrived around 20 minutes later along with the rice for both dishes. The chicken curry was mostly bones which lacked any meat attached. It was slightly more flavoursome but still nothing to rave about.
A side note, my frozen watermelon juice also had a small shard of glass in it which I sucked up through my straw. I presented it to the bar staff who took it off the bill and apologised. They recognised it was from the top of the glass which appeared to be chipped. Although rectified, I felt nervous to eat my food and also they shouldn’t really be serving food/drink in chipped glasses.
We won’t be visiting this restaurant again - there are better...
