We stayed for few days in Dumaguete back in 2014 and we enjoyed going to Hayahay almost everyday. The food is so good especially the lumpiang bangus and dumaguete express. However, one night, me and my husband were enjoying a date night at the bar when a group of three guys came to sit beside us. They brought their own wireless speaker and turned the volume at its maximum. We asked the servers if they could talk to them to turn if off because the restaurant is playing its own music and it was really annoying. In addition to that, there was a group band playing for the restaurant.
One of these rude customers suddenly throw his earphone to my husband saying if we don't want to hear their music then we should just wear them. I called the attention of the manager if he can help to sort this out. He just told me he is the acting manager because the owner was absent that day. Surprisingly, we were the ones who got asked to move place (change table). We have been sitting there for an hour or so, already started having drinks and appetizers, we were waiting for our main dish when it happened. We refused to move of course and were expecting the management will do the right thing. The rude customers started to threaten us especially my husband is a foreigner. I was 4mos pregnant back then and our eldest son was with his yaya in the hotel so we just decided to leave and didn't come back for the rest of our stay in Dumaguete.
It really sucks because we love the place but this incident marked...
Read moreThe place was one of the few restaurants open on Good Friday. So naturally, a lot of people were there. The place is an open area with two floors. But when we went here, most of the tables on the second floor was reserved. So we settled for the ground floor which was okay because we have easy access to the waiters.
The redtaurant also has a stage where bands perform on certain nights. Back when I visited, the band played which was a treat; but it made conversing hard because our table was near the stage.
The food was okay. We ordered pizza, tempura, calamares and two of their sushi rolls. I wasn'tblown away by the food but it was okay. I did like the fact that they allow customers to order ahead so the food can be prepared in time. That way, we kinda made a reservation without meaning to. And the best part is we onky needed to wait a short time before our food was served. 😁
According to my friend, Hayahay is one of the places to visit while in Dumaguete. It's always featured in vlogs and stuff and is a mainstay of Dumaguete's night life. It's a nice place and all but I just don't really dig bars and restaurants in the...
Read morePros: Food was outstanding. Worth wait time. No complaints regarding quality, portion, or price of food. We would return again because food was good. However, service is bad, so we won't be returning.
Cons: Went at night. Needed to use cell phone light to see menu. The place is dark. Waiter took 20 mins to bring drinks. Someone else brought food to our table, not the waiter. Waiter never returned to our table after bringing drinks. Had to complain to supervisor. Supervisor was professional and apologized. However, we being first time foreigners from USA, we honestly felt the waiter was being discriminatory because he served the table next to us (locals) and went back to their table several times to assist them, but ignored our table. Also, the CR is still old school pour bucket water in toilet. By now, this place should have invested in...
