Amazing brand new hostel in a great location!
Located between Dumaguete airport and the City Port, its in an ideal spot for backpackers and anyone coming to/from Siquijor. Only 5-10 min walk to the sea promenade as well.
We had the wondeful experience of being the first ever guests in this brand new Mad Monkey! The staff greeted us at the front gate and even allowed us to cut the ribbon for the grand opening!
We have stayed in several Mad Monkeys now across Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Philippines. This one is definitely the nicest!
Staff were absolutely brilliant and so attentive. Food was great, drinks were good and not overpriced.
Marloid the manager was so helpful, as well as Kyle and Ivy the guest experience team who were so much fun and joined us in playing games and karaoke.
The hostel has a nice pool, as well as a beer pong table, and even a dart board and petanque/boules area (this was a first for us - always something fun to do!)
We stayed in the 6 person mixed dorm. The stone path walk to the dorm rooms in the garden with each dorm being in its own little building makes you feel like you are staying in a 5 star resort. The rooms were very clean, beds wide and comfy with plug and lamp. Clean ensuite bathroom with a good shower and hot water.
The tour office were very helpful in suggesting activities and arranging a motorbike rental for us as well.
Overall, a stellar hostel that I'm sure will become a huge hit in no time. The only reason there isnt any reviews is because it is literally brand new, opened on 22/12/23! Would recommend to anyone visiting Dumaguete, it is far nicer and better value than other alternatives in the area.
We had such a great experience that we have booked in for another night after we come back...
Read moreNot at all like the other mad monkeys I've stayed at. The location is weirdly away from anything, tucked away down a really dark side street with nothing around. The room is ok but very bland and we were greeted by the smell of sewage when we woke up. Wifi worked relatively well. The bar/restaurant is ok, but all the prices don't include tax, so you'll end up paying a higher and weird amount for everything (like 124 pesos for a drink). The quality of the pizza we had was not worth it, but edible if you're really really hungry. Breakfast was nice but no coffee included... what kind of party orientated hostel doesn't offer free coffee to its hungover guests? Which brings me to my last point... this Mad Monkey hostel has the atmosphere of a karaoke bar in Romford, UK. Music gets cranked up to 11 in the evening so you might think there's something happening but no, it's just one member of staff singing their lungs out to Britney Spears with a couple of cats as an audience. It's a pretty sad affair.
Don't make the same mistake as we did, thinking that it would be a good idea to stop here before heading to Siquijor. Just get to the island. You will not meet many people and it's better to head directly to your...

Cons: -No WiFi (not their fault, there was a fire at some neighbours place. But they could have told the arriving guests before, I would have cancelled, as I work online) -No good internet coverage with any SIM card -A bit far from everything -quite expensive food prices (cheapest pizza is margarita for 280P, local food also expensive) and food from outside is not allowed, so also no kitchen. -the weekly activities plan fixed in the rooms is wrong. I was excited about the Filipino family dinner, but it didn’t happened cuz the plan was changed by the management :(
Resume: I would not come again, cuz the food is very expensive, there is no good/cheap place near to eat and buying groceries to eat in the hostel is...
