Came on a special taco pop-up night. Iâm not a huge taco fan, but when I heard that a husband and wife team were making the tacos, I jumped at the chance. I meanâŚwho else would know how to make an authentic Mexican taco?
There were 4 kinds of tacos. At first, we were just going to order 2 of each but Leon said, âno! Get 4! Youâre 2 people!â So I did what he said and ordered 4 of each of the tacos. Turns out, Leon was right. The tacos were small, but flavorful. They were easy to eat and had the right ratio of protein to tortilla. I know 16 tacos split between 2 people may seem like a lot, but it was just right.
We also ordered 2 quesadillas and Chicharones con queso? (I hope thatâs the name) it looked like a deep fried cheese log when it was servedâkind of like a dosa with no filling. It was light, crunchy and served with guacamole.
The salsas were amazing! I usually go for the spiciest one, but the salsa verde was the winner for me. It had just enough spice in itânot too overwhelming.
We didnât take pictures because the lighting for the photos wouldnât do the food any justice. Besides, my food was getting cold. I came to eat, not post on ig!
So if youâre ever in San Antonio Plaza and Leon is around⌠just order what he tells you! You...

Read moreI grew up eating Mexican food in CA. Since we closed our Mexican restaurant in BGC in 2017, weâve been craving for good authentic tacos. I donât always get to cook it at home and when I had recent cravings, I saw a post about the pop-up and got super excited! Nothing here in Manila fits the bill for our family until Ay Papito opened and did this pop-up, so you can just imagine how thrilled we were! While the tacos arenât served (yet) on corn tortillas (and I can completely understand why!), the chapati was equally as good because to me, itâs all about the flavors. Ay Papito just needs a bit of consistency on the onion-cilantro servings and cooking of the chapatis (which they have addressed) but overall, weâre very satisfied and happy because now we have our go-to for taco cravings. Our familyâs personal fave is the Cerdo tacos and the salsas â we love to mix them together! Canât wait for the next pop-up, and hopefully (very soon) we can go in person and we can eat âem hot off...
