Marugame Udon (One Ayala) — Local services in Makati

The food is good, but the service is really poor, especially the cashier. I ordered the pork samurai, and when I was about to pay, I handed her a 1k bill. She asked if I had a smaller bill (and her tone was already really rude by this point), so I said, 'Wala po'. Then she asked if I would pay with GCash or card. Since the signal was weak, I said, 'Wala po', so I said, 'Ah, card na lang po'. She then replied, 'Wala na punch ko nang cash' in a tone that felt dismissive and rude. I just said, 'Ah, ok po' . Then she started counting my change, and I saw that she was giving me a bunch of coins (I think it totaled 117 pesos in coins). I also heard her whisper to her coworker, 'Cash daw eh', as if she was mocking me for choosing to pay with cash. When she handed me the change, she deliberately dropped it into the tray, which was close to the bowl. Since my hands are small, the coins fell into the bowl with the soup. She didn't even offer to replace it unless I stared at her, and then she took the bowl without even saying sorry. She brought it to the person preparing the food, and she was saying that it was my fault the coin fell, as if trying to blame me. It's fine for me to get coins, but that kind of attitude is unacceptable. It's not just her who's tired; we all are. I hope Muragame takes the time to improve the quality of service, especially from their cashier, IVY, because I wasn’t the only one she treated that way. I recently visited Marugame Udon in One Ayala with my friends, excited to enjoy some good food and catch up. While the food was decent as expected, the experience was completely overshadowed by the behavior of one of the staff members.

When I politely asked for tempura flakes, the cashier relayed the request to the kitchen staff. One of the kuyas was already in the process of transferring more flakes into a bowl—but before he could finish, a tomboy-presenting staff member (I don’t know her name) suddenly shouted “WALA NA!” in an aggressive tone. Not only was it unnecessary and inaccurate—since there clearly were tempura flakes being prepared—but it also felt really rude and unprofessional.

To make things worse, after we finished eating and got up to leave, we overheard the same staff member saying loudly, “Buti naman, ang tatagal kasi.” That kind of attitude towards paying customers is just unacceptable. We weren’t loitering—we were simply finishing our meal and chatting like normal people do at any restaurant.

Marugame Udon has always been one of my go-to spots for casual Japanese food, but this kind of treatment made us feel unwelcome and disrespected. Please do better in training your staff—not just in food service, but in basic courtesy and...

got tuna musubi & pork cutlet for takeout. never again. i tried their beef udon the other day and found it too salty, but i figured i should give them one last try, which clearly was a mistake.

i don't mind the huge service charge (30 pesos for takeout) if the takeout box is actually okay. but it's just a standard flimsy box, and everything was packed together. for some reason, their tuna musubi isn't completely wrapped, so it's in direct contact with the surprisingly greasy pork cutlet the entire time. the pork cutlet also didn't get any extra wrappings to separate it from the rest.

for the food itself, the tuna musubi is bland. i refuse to accept that they used actual nori, because there was no seaweed taste at all. the pork cutlet was 80% salty breading and 20% chewy meat.

the branch is really small & cramped without much walking space for either customer or staff. also not very hygienic, because i saw the lady who packed my takeout just hold the pork cutlet barehanded to adjust its place in the box.
