just stayed here again for the beginning of the year trip to PH and Sabang. i have visited this hotel more than 10 times in the last 15 years, I'm a regular. it has been a regularly available, reliable and friendly place to stay for me throughout the years. its owner is Australian, Paul and the front desk manager, Ginina, is piney, speaks great English and very helpful. I usually call ahead and inquire, they have email as well. I announce my arrival date and stay length and tell them that my girlfriend will arrive the day I will and to let her in and wait for me in the room, to make it easier for her and they always accommodate me, no problems what so ever. I arrive from the taxi via airport and get settled. its a smaller place, but big enough for 2 people and a great value. the food has improved over the last several years and the bar well stocked. usually has a bunch of Australian Lolo's in the bar. I've meet several nice folks and Paul seems to know most of them. they added a "smoking both" into the bar, so now, no more of the chocking cig smoke to fret. the place is right on Pilar Ave, which is exceedingly noisy throughout the day/night, I chose a room in the rear for that reason and its mitigated noise well. 24 hours bar/resto service and the staff is always a treat and entertaining, they now have real brewed coffee and the food is good and a pretty good value. I use this reliable place when I'm only going to stay in manila for a short time and move on. easy access to airport, close to most amenities. I recommend this place for single travelers, but probably not for your elderly or mother, has streep stairs and no ADA access. has a front door man 24/7 and close to the EMERALD Chinese rest, best Chinese I've had in PI, 2 minute walk. if your not elderly, or can walk a short steep flight of stairs, I recommend this place for the budget, fast and fun traveler, have fun folks and say hight to Ginina and...
Read moreI’ve been going to the Duck Inn since 2009. Even if I’m staying elsewhere in Manila, I always pop in for a drink or a meal. My wife prefers the Best Western across the road, but as a solo traveller, my first preference is always “the Duck”. ||The rooms are comfortable and basic, with an extensive and reasonably-priced mini-bar and snack bar. Downstairs you have a 24-hour sports bar which also does meals and a great western breakfast. You can watch a good variety of international sports here and they can show different events simultaneously. Premier League games are possible, although not with the volume up as the times clash with AFL or the live music, depending on the time and season. But if you love AFL, then game on!||The best thing about the Duck Inn is the people. The staff really go out of their way to look after you. This is the friendliest hotel I’ve stayed at in the Philippines and the staff treat you like family. The security is also second to none. No riff-raff is allowed in, no vendors, no unsavory types. I think it would be harder for a thief to enter the Duck Inn than any of Manila’s 5-star hotels (no joke). ||The hotel patrons and regular customers are also great people, and many of them are repeat visitors, which says it all. Highly recommended, and I guarantee if you go there once, you’ll become a repeat visitor some day, too.||A special shout out to Reggie, the night guard. He will do whatever he can to make your stay more comfortable and can help with...
