It was my first time going to chinese places in Manila. It seems like we're tripping down memory lane. One of the places we chose to eat at was Wai Ying fast food in Benavidez.

The spot was I think small but it accommodates as much customers as it could. I remember hearing one of the customers saying that they are a pack of 22 persons and Wai Ying ok'd and were able to accommodate them. I didnt actually like that their kitchen area is located at an exposed part of the resto so its not really a good view, and it was even separated into 3 stations I think, but I understand that maybe it has been like that eversince. Crew and staff are friendly and gives you warm smiles everytime you make eye contact with them and all of them are really trained to be accommodating. The manang crew there even answered most of our questions as to what kind of food is in the menu. Its a plus for me that one is knowledgeable about what they sell.

As expected, the food are expensive, but it compensates the chinese food feel. We ordered Hakaw, roasted duck and fried rice, some other dumplings, noodles and some signature drinks. I was happy about the roasted duck and asado fried rice because the serving was generous and I was not even able to finish it off entirely.

If you are planning on resto hopping, I don't suggest you ordering heavy meals, and just order the dimsums. This would give you further "space" to eat at...

Service is poor. This is a constant issue with the restaurant.

I have experienced this problem on several occasions.

For example, I ordered tea with my food, but it took six reminders and a long wait to get it. I had already finished eating by the time it arrived.

Another time, I asked for extra rice when I was almost done with my first serving. I reminded them again after I finished my rice, but they never brought it. I had to eat the remaining dishes without rice. My companions had also finished eating by then.

When I asked for the check, the service crew had the audacity to ask me if I still wanted the extra rice.

It seemed like they deliberately ignored my request and waited until I had no use for it. Then they mockingly offered it to me.

What kind of...

Since I already ate in the main branch and had my review on the food they offer. My feedback on this branch is the following:

Lack of cell phone signal in the first floor inner section.

Some tables are not properly cleaned, like there were still some bits of rice and some used chop sticks were lying on the floor. Talk about the safety of your toddlers if they got hold of one of those.

Some food items on the menu are not available, this is so common in the many Chinese restaurants in Binondo-Santa Cruz so be prepared to pick other options aside from the planned and best seller ones.

And finally, yes inflation in the Philippines had its effect on Wai Ying as well. Your bill now may be higher compared to your visit like 6 or...

A lot has not changed at Wai Ying Fast food. Mainly the food, quality and portion is still good, its still one of the "comfort food" I look for whenever I visit downtown Manila. The place still has the old chinatown fast food vibes, not very bright, not the cleanest looking (but hey, its often true, the not so good looking restaurants serve authenitc, delicious food) What has changed though is the pricing. I grew up in this area and since high school i remember the price of one rice topping is just around 90-110pesos but since then it has doubled. But still highly recommended, and I believe currently is still worth the price. I love their dimsum, congee, mami. For rice toppings: Asado rice, and Chicken Mushroom Rice

Hands down one of the best Dimsum places in Binondo. If you're around the area, this place is a must-go! A word of advice, this is the better branch (there's another one in the opposite end of Benavidez street, nearer Ongpin) as the other branch is smaller and the queue is crazier. I think I've tried everything in the Menu (with the exception of the Suckling pig). Their food never disappoints. Dimsum taste is always on point, texture is good and chewy (not soggy), and servings are generous. The price of their items are also very reasonable (although in recent times, the prices have gone up but that's just natural I guess...) PS: More Pictures to come!
