Amazing southern barbecue restaurant in Subic. My wife and I had visited here five years ago and were captivated by the decor of the restaurant and had to try out their offerings. Well, to make this review concise, we came back again for the same reason we were glad to eat here then. We arrived in Subic five years ago to spend the American holiday known as Thanksgiving. Upon arrival at our hotel we were curious if anywhere served the typical fare that is typical for this holiday meal. The hotel recommended Texas Joe's as a place that might, since Subic was at one time the largest U S Navel Base outside the country. Well for that same reason then we were once again in Subic for Thanksgiving (2018). The restaurant didn't disappoint us this time just as it didn't the last time we had Thanksgiving dinner there . Let me say this, when walking into the restaurant you forget right away that you are in the Philippines. The atmosphere is pure southwestern, right down to the old time western movie's being shown on the televisions throughout the restaurant. Can't skip mentioning the beauty of the waitresses who are neatly attired in the theme of Texas Joe's. The meal was just the thing that even my philipino wife was enjoying a holiday meal she fell in love with back at home in Virginia, by the way it is known as the birth place of Thanksgiving, some other place not mentioned may disagree but at least we can claim to be one of the two for this tradition. As for the rest of the menu, offerings of southern barbecue abound, and by the looks of the amount of patrons, philipino as well as foreign, it must be delicious. Our Thanksgiving meals before as now, well we did return again specifically for Thanksgiving dinner, can't say much more than that.

I've gone to this place a total of 2 times, once last year for late lunch, dinner this time for my fiancΓ©e's birthday. The service is fairly average for what it is. Quite the long waiting time for most things, but it might be due to the fact that the first time we went here, it was at the end of the lunch rush. We went a little bit later this year, and we had better service. But overall, there was a general improvement of service from last year. The steak was fantastic! They get it just right if you get it in medium-well. Not too raw, not too dry. Nice and juicy, but not too overcooked. The salmon was similarly terrific! It was way smaller last year, but we were given a bigger portion of salmon this year. The sides are a hit or miss. The Corn Tortilla Soup is delicious! Avoid the baked potato. It's literally just a normal baked potato with no butter or ANY kind of toppings. Other restaurants and steakhouses have way better baked potatoes that actually taste good and aren't this basic. Choose a better side instead. To summarize everything, definite improvements from last years experience to this year, in all aspects. From food to the service, it got so much better. For the price, it's a pretty darn good steak in the Philippines. Will come back if we're ever in Subic Bay again!

Celebrating Father's Day in advance, we decided to go to Subic Freeport for Duty Free shopping and some serious culinary adventure. Texas Joe's has been an established institution in Subic serving Ribs and Steaks for as long as I can remember and by far the most delicious ribs I'be tasted in the Philippines. Don't be scared by their prices as the food tastes excellent and portions are huge. For this trip we ordered the Full Rack Smoked Ribs, Beef Brisket and Onion Loaf. The meat comes with garlicky beans and 2 side dishes which you can choose from their menu. We ordered 2 Baked Potatoes and forgo eating rice. The beef brisket is melt in your mouth tasty while the ribs are fall off the bone tender. Of course no trip is complete to Texas Joe's without ordering their heavenly Onion Loaf which are actually onion rings battered lightly and deep fried to perfection. Don't forget to use their housemade Jalapeno Sauce which tastes way better than the bottled ones. Food are excellent and service is great. This is a must try place whenever you're at Subic Freeport. The downside is the place can be quiet jampacked during lunch and dinnertime so I suggest you arrive at 11 am for lunch and 5:30 pm for dinner. You can order ahead and chill while having a cocktail before meal

This is a place you definitely want to eat at when you're in the Subic area. We arrived for an early dinner and the queue to get tables was long! That's probably because this is a really popular place to eat here in Subic. We started off with the Corn Tortilla Soup. Served piping hot, this watery goodness was bursting with flavor despite the brothy feel. I expected something heavier - but whatever they used in that light broth really tickled my taste buds. I'd give this dish a 5-star rating on its own! T-bone steaks were cooked to (medium-rare) perfection. The cut of meat was perfect - had some fat, had some caritlage, and the meat was tender despite it's relatively thick cut. The herbed butter they served on the side was another thing of note. Spread it on with each bite of the steak and you won't even feel the urge to use gravy or any of their special sauces. The baby back ribs was a bit of a let down. The flavor was purely on the surface and the meat had not absorbed the flavours of the dry rub and the smoking process they used on it. Overall, this is a place I would definitely come back to next time I'm in the area. Now that I know what to order, I am confident that my next trip here will be a satisfying and memorable meal. Good job!

I've been here more than a few times trying to find out what makes this place highly rated. I just don't know. As a Texas-styled smokehouse restaurant; their steaks, and smoked barbecued meats should be better than average. Sadly, no. I've had their ribeye steak, striploin, and filet mignon. I ordered medium rare each time; and got chewy, dry meats each time. The ribs were only better; just. The thick glaze on the ribs was the only thing that was giving the meat some flavor. Although the meat falls apart easily; I still found the ribs on the dry side. The Mexican dishes were slightly better. Skip their tacos, and their burritos; no flavor. Their carnitas were the same. However, the carnitas came with soft tortillas, guacamole, and salsa. Mix them all together inside a tortilla shell, and you get a tasty and flavorful taco. I did enjoy one dish they have; that I would gladly pay them a visit to savor again and again, the Tortilla soup. I was thinking of a lower rating for this restaurant; but their Tortilla soup was better than the ones I've had in Metro Manila, and thus a 3-star rating. This soup was so deeply flavorful; it never failed to make me happy to have ordered it again.

Every time we go to Subic, our friends always recommend this place to dine in. The resto is undeniably giving a Texan, cowboy vibe. The dim lights are conveying fine dining accent and remind me of the usual American hotel lamps. As to the food, we ordered: Carolina Combo πππ β composed of hickory-smoked Swift Premium USA Spare Ribs combined with a a quarter of hickory-smoked chicken. The ribs and chicken are undeniably soft to masticate. The chicken breast, though the naturally driest part of it, paired with wings is savory and tasty. Ribeye Steak πππ β the whole slab was inarguably tasty! *pops a kiss to my fingers and blowing it away* π However, we just find the steak tough and chewy. There are other restos who can offer a way, way tender steak at the same price point. Brisket Burger πππβ advertisement by mainstream burger shops could never top TJβs 100% beef burger! It is indeed genuine beef. You can still see the strands of the meat. Tho lacking with dressing (for me), the whole experience of eating it is satisfying.
