One of the Indian kitchen staff put our lives in danger. Let me explain.
My husband and I dined in at around 11pm last night, June 1st. We ordered mutton masala, New Bombay’s version of buttered chicken, naan breads, and extra basmati rice.
In the middle of our meal, we heard one of the waitresses yelling inside the kitchen. At first, I thought it was unprofessional, but when I asked for our bill, I asked her what happened. I worked in the kitchen as a kitchen supervisor in the early years of my career so I was curious why she yelled at the kitchen staff. She answered, “sorry mam ha kasi nagyoyosi po yung cook sa loob ng kusina. Hindi sila pasita, e delikado yun mam e. Sorry po.” I understood why the waitress reacted that way. She clearly knew what food safety was. Something that the kitchen staff were supposed to be more knowledgeable of.
As a chef, I was appalled.
The kitchen staff was smoking a cigarette INSIDE the kitchen where they handle and prepare food, and where the gas line is. Not only did that kitchen staff endanger my life, my husband’s life, but everyone else in that complex because the gas line of those restaurants may be connected. Additionally, he risked contaminating the food and ingredients inside the kitchen.
At first, my husband and I thought the waitress was unprofessional, but she was not. She was protecting the lives of the people in that building. So a big...

I also noticed that their staff and cooks are not wearing uniforms properly, just like in a cafeteria.
This restaurant is not kid-friendly. We went there with the family and with kids as well, but since the foods are most likely spicy as it's Indian cuisine, one of us went outside to buy meals (fast food) for the kids, just a small piece of chicken and one cup of rice. But when we brought it inside, the crew told us that it is not allowed to bring foods from outside as their policy (with an angry approach). Well, we understood that kind of policy, but just for the sake of the kids, they should empathize with them, as I think it's just a small thing.
It's not recommended to eat here, especially if you have kids.
This is my first time to go and eat in an Indian restaurant, but for sure I will not go back...

The hygiene is worrisome. The toilet is horrible and there are almost always horseflies hovering over your Chicken Biryani.
The staff doesn't seem to be professionally trained.
As for taste, I LOVE IT! But I am not Indian so I would not know what is good Indian food and what is bad. But for me New Bombay is one of my all time favorites. The branch at HV dela Costa is the best one I have been to.
I usually order - Chicken Haryali, Egg Curry, the dry Okra dish, the spinach Paneer, the Black Dahl, plain Yogurt...
I tried a mushroom dish and a new chicken dish (sorry, can't remember) but both were okay. Not as good though as my usual orders listed above.
As for price point, I find it a little expensive at around P295...
