So it was my first official day in BGC, and I was ready to live my best city-girl life. After a little online sleuthing (a.k.a. me scrolling through Google Maps like it's Tinder), I decided to check out Pancake House -- conveniently a short walk from where I was staying.
Like most sit-down spots in BGC, the service was lovely -- smiles all around, not a single complaint. But let me drop a PSA for any future diners: these folks have Olympic-level upselling skills. You think you're just getting a drink? Boom -- now it's a refillable iced tea. You order a meal? Suddenly, it comes with a "highly recommended" upgrade. They could probably convince you to add an appetizer to your water.
Anyway, I went with the pork tocino breakfast (because I'm not about to skip protein) and added caramel walnut banana pancakes -- because self-care. The tocino and garlic fried rice were so good I had to tap out before even touching the pancakes, so I boxed them to go. Fast-forward a few hours: I'm ready for my pancake moment. I butter them up, drizzle that caramel sauce, take a bite -- and immediately go, "Wait... why does this taste... meaty?" After a few detective bites, I realized there was definitely some kind of cross-contact situation happening. Somewhere, a rogue spatula betrayed me. I sadly retired the pancakes to the trash.
Honestly, aside from the unexpected meat-flavored dessert, it was still a decent experience and a solid kickoff to my BGC trip. Lesson learned though: in Manila, even your pancakes might come with a little extra protein.
Overall, I'm giving the tocino breakfast a 4.5, the banana pancakes a 2 (1 for looks and the other 2 for effort), service a 4 so I feel a solid 3.5. Worth a visit and the Mind Museum is a short...
Read moreDisappointment: Our experience was marred by several issues that left us feeling let down. Timing of Orders: Despite requesting that our mains and dessert be served separately with exception to the halo halo, they mains and one of the deserts arrived with exception of halo halo arrived simultaneously, diminishing the enjoyment of our meal. Service Delays and Oversights: The halo halo dessert took an unusually long time to arrive, and when it did, it lacked a dessert spoon. Subsequently, when we requested one, we were given a regular main course spoon instead. Lack of Attention to Outdoor Guests: We found that guests dining outside received inadequate attention, as the focus of the staff seemed to be primarily indoors. Payment Process: While the request for the bill was promptly fulfilled, there was an unexpected delay in bringing the credit card machine, which took more than 10 minutes. Decision Not to Return: Despite giving the establishment a second chance, the persisting issues have led us to conclude that we will not be returning in the future. Recommendations for Improvement: Drawing from my experience working in the front of house, I would suggest focusing on attention to detail. For guests dining outdoors, it's crucial to maintain vigilance both inside and outside the establishment, perhaps by assigning a staff member specifically to monitor outdoor tables. Additionally, staff should be trained to ensure that tables are prepared appropriately for each course; for example, when clearing main courses and serving desserts, all utensils from the previous course should be removed and replaced with the appropriate cutlery before serving the desert or at...
Read moreMy partner and I have always been fans of Pancake House. The food and dining experience have consistently been good, which is why we keep coming back. Unfortunately, last night, December 29, at their BGC BURGOS CIRCLE BRANCH was not one of those pleasant experiences.
A waiter named PAU was very disrespectful towards me after he got my order wrong. I patiently repeated my order to him, but instead of acknowledging it, he seemed offended and gave me a dirty look, as if I had done something wrong.
Things only got worse when he served our service water—he banged the glasses on the table, clearly displaying his bad mood toward me and my partner. What was most alarming was when he intentionally came to our table and coughed in front of me, which we found highly inappropriate and unprofessional.
This behavior prompted us to call the attention of the manager, report PAU’s actions, and ultimately cancel our orders. It was a deeply disappointing experience, far from what we’ve come to expect from Pancake House.
We hope you will take steps to ensure that only polite and professional staff are hired to maintain the quality of service your...
