Our go-to neighborhood cafe.
Kid friendly. Pet friendly. Big group friendly. Solo diner friendly. Yep, you name it.
They have the best location for diners with children - we usually let the kids run amuck in the park while waiting for the food and afterwards while we bask in our collective appreciation post-meal.
Shame though that BGC started opening 27th street to cars again on weekends. It used to be so nice for people-watching and brining the community together. It's now become a parking lot of the entitled elites dining in other restaurants in the area. But I digress.
Now for food I have a few favorites. For heavier meals I usually go for the Kimchi Rice meal or the chicken and waffles. This time we went at breakfast and here's what we ordered:
Waffles and Fruit - my kid's favorite probably because of the whipped cream and fruits but personally I'm not a fan. I also think it shouldn't be as expensive but they use almond flour for the waffle which I don't really like the texture for my waffles.
Matcha Latte - it's the good kind of matcha though i think the latte art is what elevates this drink - just look at that unicorn! The skill! The talent!!!
Flat White - forgot to take a photo because I gulped it down so quickly even my throat didnt have time to burn
Breakfast Steak and Eggs - yum. They liked this. I didn't have any this visit lol sometimes the steak can be rubbery tbh
Truffle pasta - a staple with the kids. This is yum. A consistent favorite.
And lastly, my favorite Grilled Cheese Sandwich with tomato soup - went to Fat Seed on a rainy morning to be comforted by this deliciousness.
We went at around 8am on a Monday - a big group with kids. We sat outside because it was cool and the rain wasn't too bad, plus easier to see the kids playing from the table outside as well. We were seated right away, no need for reservations. But if you go on a weekend with a big group, would be definitely hard to get seats so best...

However, our experience was impacted by poor service and a serious safety concern. Upon arrival, we requested a table for six, including two children and a senior. I spoke to one of the staff, a woman, but she did not respond or even acknowledge my request. A simple, “I’ll check and get back to you, ma’am,” would have made a big difference. Instead, we had to speak with two or more other servers before we were finally seated inside.
During our meal, I witnessed a very alarming incident. A young boy, around two years old, was trying to open the main entrance door. Surprisingly, the same female staff member helped him open the door without checking if a parent or guardian was nearby. She allowed him to leave the premises unsupervised. Moments later, we saw his mother chasing after him while pushing a stroller. Shockingly, none of the staff outside tried to stop the child or assist the mother — the boy was running across the road, and luckily no car was around.
Me and another guest nearby whimpered seeing the situation. It was clear that some of the staff lacked proper training, attentiveness, and a basic sense of responsibility for guest safety.
I hope management addresses these serious issues because the kitchen has great potential, but the front-of-house staff urgently need...

The servers were very polite and available (despite busyness) to seat me and take my order. The spanish latté was so good. I was initially scared the chicken and ube waffle wouldn’t satisfy but here’s why it did: 1️⃣ The ube waffle was light and airy in texture, which complements the chicken so well!! There wasn’t a processed, overly sweet taste that can sometimes distract from the chicken! 2️⃣ Chicken was perfectly breaded. And it tastes like Jollibee - umami, crispy and juicy. So perfect, and good without the sauce already but the aioli makes it even better. 3️⃣ The details! Syrup is thick (might be the processed one) but it has bacon bits and works well with the waffle. Aioli was nice on the chicken and balances out the sweet waffle. They also served pickled onions and peppercorn, which was 👌👌on the chicken.
Only notes (from an amateur who couldn’t do it better lol): Waffle could use more ube, cause it actually tasted good with the rest of the dish! Chicken lacked just a little bit of salt (maybe a longer marinade or add a small sprinkle after frying)! Less butter on the waffle and I wonder if a different syrup could accentuate the ube better.
I worked on uploading two IG reels here and just enjoyed the BGC view! Plus they played VULFPECK my fav Michigander band.
Thank you, Fat Seed! Best reward for my...
