I first visited Galicja in September 2022. My waitress was a young blond girl, maybe around 18 or 20 years old. Myself being from the United States, she spoke English extremely well and understood our dialect.
I looked over the menu and chose a couple items for starter and dinner. I asked her for a recommendation on a drink and she told me what she liked. Ok, I’ll try that. It was a good choice. During my time in Łódź this specific visit, I went to Galicja two more times. My last time, I had the same waitress. She remembered me and what I ordered. She also knew the menu well enough that she was able to quickly flip through the menu and show me what I liked, including the drink.
Fast forward to February 2023. Once again I was visiting Łódź, and two more times I ate at Galicja. Both times I had the same blonde waitress, and again she provided amazing service. And again, she remembered me. In fact, at the end of February when I made my last visit, she just looked at me and asked if I was having my usual, then flipped through the menu and pointed out what I wanted. She was even kind enough on my very first and very last visit to take a picture with my guests and me.
Now the food. Given I had the same thing every time I was there, I cannot comment on the menu as a whole. But the Hungarian Goulash and the pirogies were beyond amazing. In fact, I told my wife that she’s going to have to learn how to make pirogies the way Galicja makes them.
The environment is very comfortable and intimate. We are downstairs every time.
The location is pretty good too. It’s outside the Manufactura mall far enough away from heavy foot traffic. Parking is a little bit of a walk, but the area is beautiful and worth walking.
If I ever return to Łódź, I will, without a doubt,...
Read moreI'm sorry to have to change my opinion, Friday July 7th we waited ten minutes on the terrace, we were given the card and then nothing. There were three young people having fun by the front door but no one came to take our order, we weren't happy (to be polite) and left very unhappy, that's an attitude that we find disrespectful for the customers AND for the owner of the restaurant who loses money as a result. Two days ago (Wednesday) a friend also encountered this problem. Thursday we also came, there was a young blonde girl who was there, with her everything went perfectly. We also leave our old opinion and we will come back again but it will be the last if there is no evolution. Old notice: Very good service, very nice place, magnificent ceilings, very nice very soft lighting, excellent cuisine, very good chef. Belgian fries ... Well, so I'm Belgian, and fries in Belgium are sacred! ;-) they were very well cooked, crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside, with fresh potatoes, not disgusting frozen as often in France, cooked in two passages as it should, it is feels, worthy of a good Belgian chip shop, well done! But what is unfortunately missing is the "beef white" as in Belgium, animal fat and not oil, the taste is quite different, much better (to our Belgian taste ;-)) I don't know if you can find it in Poland but if you have it, try it, you can taste the difference. Otherwise congratulations, everything...
Read moreTerribly disappointed in my pork knuckle dinner. Pork knuckle is peasant food extraordinaire. The meat is usually tender and flavorful from a slow simmer in broth and then the skin is roasted to a crispy crunchy delectable treat. What was served to me tonight was as flavorless and tough as an over cooked pork chop. The skin was limp and drooped sadly over the tough meat. I had one of my husband’s perogies and it was just ok. He was disappointed and said they were just blah. I called the waitress over when I was dissatisfied with my pork knuckle. I asked her before ordering if the skin was crispy using a translation ap and she said yes. But then when I showed her the limp soggy skin she said you’re not supposed to eat the skin. Well girlfriend, that’s why it’s usually roasted so beautifully. I’ve had it in Warsaw and even in Germany and the skin is definitely eaten. I have friends who grew up eating it and they said they fought over the skin. After she told me eating the skin was essentially gross, she just walked off. I am not impressed with...
