El Popo The Place: the place is decorated with Mexican/Latin themes. It is spacious and it even has a second floor with more tables. You could se traditional colors and a Wild West kind of vibe. The music in the background also added to the Latin feel of the restaurant, all in Spanish with a mix of rancheras and bailables. The fire alarm went off during the visit, thankfully a false alarm but it was the only annoying thing during my visit and it lasted for a minute. The Staff: everyone was friendly and helpful. Everyone I interacted with spoke English and communication was fluid. I did not have to wait much time to place my order and the dishes came after just a few minutes I ordered them. Top class service. The Food: I ordered a Tortilla Soup, Tacos al Pastor, and Tresleches. The restaurant has its one take on Mexican food. It was not traditional but an evolution that tasted really good. Eating the soup was quite an experience, they bring the broth in a soup bowl and on a separate plate the tortilla strips, avocado, cheese and sour cream. You dump them in the broth as you like. Cool touch. The tacos al pastor were good as well, nice tortilla, the sweetness of the pineapple was on the spot. They added sun flower seeds to the tacos, that was new to me, that’s why I believe they have imprinted their own style to the dishes. The Tresleches was great, I would have added a bit more of condensed milk. Overall the food was good, not spicy at all. The Drinks: I ordered two micheladas, the mix was good and easy to drink. I had a double espresso with the desert. I have tasted better coffe but it was not bad. The Price: all the food plus tip rounded up to 180PLN, that is close to 40 euros /March 2023/. I would say that is a bit expensive, but it is worth it. Overall: nice place to eat and drink a different take on Mexican food. The place is nice, you’ll find friendly staff...
Read moreIf you are looking for authentic Mexican food, this restaurant is not the place. Although the decor and the Polish mariachi added a nice touch to the atmosphere, I was very underwhelmed by the food and drinks, especially for the price.
I do give positive marks for the service as our waitress was very nice, but the food was not good quality. The chips, along with the guac (which was pretty expensive) tasted generic and watery. The main dishes were just ok, but definitely tasted like something that I could easily prepare myself at home. Finally, the margaritas did not get my stamp of approval and that was the real bummer. I got the classic, and it was extremely sour and hard to finish. Their signature strawberry margarita was fine, but it was so sweet and artificial tasting, and thus also hard to finish. Compared to other Mexican restaurants of the same caliber in Warsaw, the drinks were unbelievably expensive, especially for the quality.
Will I come back? Probably not. I do wonder if there are dishes or drinks on the menu that would have been better quality because I was eyeing the mango margarita, but I think my first experience here was a little to lackluster for...
Read moreIt would be great if a "Mexican" flavor-inspired restaurant in Warsaw would actually prepare food with flavor. Mexican food is seasoned and cooked with the appropriate flavors, spice, and heat WHILE MAKING IT IN THE KITCHEN, it is not adding a sauce on top after it is cooked and delivered to the plate, hoping it might have something consisting flavor and nuance.
Providing average-flavored food with a side of different sauces consisting of either bland to incredibly spicy is not how Mexican food gets flavor. This should not be a serving of vanilla ice cream with toppings on the side to add to your own liking and trying to create your own sundae.
This is a kitchen that is either inexperienced with authentic Mexican flavors and serves to the masses of Polish people afraid of true spice and flavor (which would make sense if you are afraid to venture into anything mirroring intense flavor or heat) or a kitchen trying to mimic what they think Mexican food should taste like and striking out each and every time.
Sadly, there has yet to be a restaurant in Warsaw that is even close to the authentic flavor and taste of...
