We had a team dinner here and the food was simply heavenly! No, I mean it, it was one of the best foods I've EVER tried! And none of it was anything crazy, which is the weirdest part?! How can something so simple be that good?
The part that ruined the experience by quite a bit - the service is just bad. While I understand that we were a handful of people, pouring alcoholic wine to someone who ordered a nonalcoholic one is a big "No" from me. If a colleague wouldn't have seen it, there simply would've been no way to even know before drinking, as they pour from behind you and take the bottle away. They also routinely forgot staff we asked for, like a different napkin instead of a wet one - we got it only 40 minutes and 2 reminders later - didn't bring butter with bread by default, and did bring only after a follow up reminder and then a complaint that maybe with two baskets we would need two sets of butter, too? They also got orders extremely chaotically instead of just going clockwise or otherwise, which made it painful to witness after a long day at work... Not to mention that we waited 40 minutes for our main course, which would've been fine if we've got it all together, but alas, that was not the case, as you probably already guessed.
Sadly, the service also ruined the atmosphere, although it was very cosy in general. They did correct themselves by suggesting on their own to take a photo of the group as we were leaving, so here's that!
And on the topic of non-alcoholic beverages - there are only 2 options in the whole two fingers thick wine menu. People, it's 2024. Cool, tasy and creative non-alcoholic drinks exist and some of us actually prefer not being inebriated! Shocking, I know.
What's more, vegetarian choice are really, really small, and I don't think there were any vegan options at all. Usually there would be at least a salad or something, but not in this case.
Absolutely would come back alone, especially for the lunch, as the food is worth everything else, but in general there are definitely some things that can be improved here. None of them are food though, which is what this place is famous for and even got recommended by Michelin, so I'll give...
Read more"Kieliszki" is a nice place, with some really fine wines and sublime dishes (both appetizers and mains, try the steak please); nice ambiance both inside as well as outside, if weather permits. What is really worth to highlight, they are using Coravin to preserve wine quality - should anyone be willing to take just a glass and not a whole bottle. An exquisite distinction and good step for "heavenly drink" quality! Now, my evaluation is directly related to this point; while I do not consider myself a wine-connoisseur, yet I am especially fragile when it comes to "over-seasoned" / oxidized / or just simply stale wines. And that is what we (my Friend and myself) were served; after 2 glasses of delicious Cotes du Rhone accompanying really yummy meal, when the bottle was finished, we've asked for something similar. I was instantly alerted seeing the waiter reaching for bottle which was already open, closed just with plain cork... and unfortunately, I was right; the wine we were offered was more VINEGAR than real wine; I am sorry - that should not happen in this place! it's worth to notice my complaint was accepted instantly, the waiter didn't even try to smell the wine - I think he knew perfectly what's inside. When I have asked "when was that opened", the reply was "4 day ago". Whoa, folks - 4 days with a cork and no fridge... Personally I would simply not use that at all...
Long story short: why 2*, one could say this can happen in ANY decent wine bar...? Correct, this CAN happen anywhere. My point is, out of my 4 visits in "Kieliszki" over last 1,5 year, I've had this exact "stale wine" situation three times (!!). So, 2* and no-go again for me, sorry. May You have...
Read moreI have to change my recommendation for Kieliszki. I used to be a big fan but it seems it changed over time in a wrong direction. First of all the service. They have never been fast, but recently they became so slow and ignorant, even with half empty restaurant you wait 15 minutes for collecting order and another 15 for the bill... secondly food. They used to have really nice tastes, played with contradiction of flavors. Not any more. Fish are frozen, dishes are not composed in a challenging way. Last but not least value for money. Two simple dishes and 3 glasses of white wine for 60$ does not correspond with average taste and unjustifiably slow service... well, it is not a first restaurant to disappoint me overtime.
