The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the exceptional service provided by the restaurant staff. From the moment I was seated until the final farewell, the staff was attentive, courteous, and highly knowledgeable about the menu. Finally proper Indian food in Portugal! We were very desperate to find an open restaurant after doing laundry last minute. It was getting close to 11pm and places were closing left and right. We stumbled onto a few places that Google incorrectly said were open. Thankfully Taste of India's doors were open. I peeked my head in and asked if they were still serving food. While they were closing, they still offered us Take Out. Great! So we ordered our meals and wow! It was fantastic! I had the lamb curry and my wife had the chicken tikka masala. My lamb was so incredibly tender (not dry and overcooked) and the sauce was so rich in flavor. My wife thought the chicken was fantastic as well. They used whole star anise, cloves, something else wonderfully fragrant we didn't recognize. For whatever reason the Indian restaurants we tried in Lisbon and Aveiro were very lacking in flavor. We're from NYC and we KNOW great Indian food. One of my close friends is Gujurati so we'd go all the time. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone seeking great Indian food anywhere (not just Evora). My only regret is not staying in Evora longer and getting to sit down to try other things on their menu.
(Pics of take away containers I almost licked clean. 😂)
I got to talking with the owner and his wife (support family owned small business!) and surprised they've only been in business for 4 months. I'm positive they will be around years from now when we return. I hope they...
Read moreGood Ambience, really polite, nice service. Food : I think, my biryani was too oily. Taste I will give 3.8/5. Quantity could be more. Otherwise nice room for improvement.
*edit - after impolite reply from the owner - that I find surprisingly odd. "Yes I am Indian, yes I have cooked better biryani with far less oil, yes the portion was a bit less. Hurting someone's ego by telling them" do you have knowledge about... "isn't the way to talk. It's important to learn and improve instead thrashing the other person. Have you tried biryani from" Jimbo" walking distance from your restaurant? I have seen your replies in last few months to all reviewers give less points, how impolitely, disrespectfully you reply back. The energy used for such replies can be used for improvement. What can be done : Your facilities, location, ambience, cleanliness everything is excellent. May be increasing slight quantity. May be a little more training and finding ways to increase taste. Eg. After cooking biryani, serving from the top portion of the cooked biryani - to avoid excessive oil leakage from the bottom part. Most imp. : using proper words while replying. Asking customers, who didn't liked, to try again for betterment, instead making then feel threatened.
I hope, my message is...
