Paulu's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Albufeira

The most fair I can be in my experience is the word, mediocre! I got the calzone and it was nothing to write home about. The pizza base was undercooked in my humble opinion. Like how the movie Alien 3 was underdone, let’s unpack that for a moment. Alien 3 was directed by the great David Fincher not his finest moment, so this could be the case with my experience and expectations for Paulu’s. In fact I wish Fincher had made my Calzone he would have made a masterpiece like Fight Club or Se7en. Anyway I have digressed as usual. Here’s the point - I don’t know what happened this time, I researched and the reviews seemed good for Paulu’s. You could take a risk and maybe you will like Alien 3, it’s not a bad movie, undercooked and not up to expectations or you will pass and look for a different place to eat. TL;DR - Amazing food and great service, in a nicely decked out restaurant. Was nice not to be pestered at the door. Would recommend.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff and they were very accommodating as we were a group of seven. The selection of bread and dips before our meal were very good, we could happily eat more. Our starters were absolutely amazing, and personally I can say the Bruschetta was one of, if not the best, I have ever had. All of our main meals were superb, we had a few slices of pizza between us at the end, which we couldn't leave as they were so good so took them home with us. We were all very pleased with the choice to eat here. One thing to note is that it was nice to not be pestered at the door to come in, as we like to stroll down and take a look at the menus of the restaurants, to choose what we want. Pros: Touristic Menu option (starter, choice of any pasta or pizza, salad, and drink) was certainly delicious and more than enough for one extremely hungry appetite. For less than 12€, it was a bargain.

Cons : Took me to call the attention of 4 waiters and the host for anyone to come take my order. Of course, by that time, they had already started to serve other customers who had come in before me. The host was also more concerned about flirting with the female customers than paying attention to the others. I noticed other customers getting complimentary shots when they were paying the bill.
