Águas de Bacalhau — Restaurant in Braga

I’ve just had one of the most delicious and beautifully presented dinners ever at this amazing little restaurant in Braga just near the Porta Nova gate. The Co-owning chef and front of house guy are a really welcoming pair and the food which is all their own creations give an interesting twist to Portuguese classics. Everything is worthy of a mention but certainly the taste of the carrot soup with an inventive topping and the Cod “risotto” with creative flavours and textures and without the salty taste you often get with Bacalhau were stunning.

The service was friendly, informative and very prompt. The chef is charming and clearly a star! If you eat in only one place in Braga make it here. I can’t wait to return tomorrow. Thank you Aguas de Bacalhau - and my generous glass of chilled white wine from the Douro...

The soup of the day is the highlight of this restaurant. Best soup in Portugal 🤪 The octopus and various beef dishes are also delicious. I have to also highlight the special sauce of the chicken wings (from the appetizers list). It is quite delicious and unique in taste. I suggest renaming that dish to Braga wings to better capture the unique essence of that sauce and the unique taste. The owner Mario is a wonderful person and an amazing host. He even walked with me one day as I was looking for a decent wine shop and showed me around the city. The head chef and his two apprentices produce unconventional, delicious, and exciting recipees in the kitchen everyday. This is an EXCEPTIONAL place. The food is totally unique, excellent, well-thought out and lovingly prepared by a professional, multi-national , energetic and VERY SKILLED team of individuals led by Chef MauMau (an alchemist!), Sous-Chef Tina, supported by Lucky in the kitchen. You will taste foods as you have never tasted. Not pretentious; the opposite: confident, soul food.
