Santobychef — Restaurant in Braga

Review for english speaking patrons. The staff are very nice, chef included (came out of the kitchen multiple times to make sure everything was good). There is a bit of a language barrier, to be expected. Cover charge comes with some bread and toasties with some sort of smoked spread and smoked butter, both tasty. I had dined solo and had the octopus dish to start. Some of the most tender octopus I’ve had in my life, though could use a touch more salt/seasoning. Portion for an app is reasonable. My main was the steak dish. Cooked to perfection and a pretty massive portion all together (with the potato side dish), I would recommend sharing this with anothe person if you’re having multiple appetizers or plan on having dessert. The dish is also served with a side sauce of mushrooms and foie gras/truffle, pairs well with the steak. For dessert I had the chocolate brownie, served with vanilla ice cream. Very decadent but was nice with the espresso I had post dinner/wine. Overall the ambience and food was nice and I felt welcomed to the establishment. The food was delicious and beautiful presentation. We had Couvert (I love the smoke butter), Arroz de forno c/enchidos e paleta de cordeiro, Entrecôte 300 g c/molho holandês e batata 3 x, dessert: Rabanadas c/gelado de baunilha, and Pudim abade Priscos c/espuma yuzu e crumble de gengibre. Great wine list, we had Encosta das perdizes reserva tinto 75 cl. It was delicious.

Best kept secret - the food was amazing! I can’t say enough and I wish I took pictures. To start, we had cachorrinho de camarao. If we ordered nothing else, we would have just ordered more of this. The main course was Robalo com pure topinambur. My husband, who normally does not order fish, really enjoyed this dish. It’s full of flair and you need to make sure you order bread to sop up the sauce. Dessert was understated.
